Currently using a pro-100 but in need of new cartridges and maybe a print head. I am considering switching to a different printer, but something under $400 like an Epson. Any thoughts? Is the pro-100 that much better then others?

The Pro-100 can be had for half the price, after US rebate, than a complete set of ink tanks.
Plus, you'd get a new/spare printhead.
Refilling the tanks with quality ink is also very simple and economical.

You have to be ready to buy as soon as you find the rebate offered; they don't last long.

More information than you'll ever get from Canon about it and other printers
can be found HERE (external link).

Reward card for $200 or $250 available through Canon until the end of the year. See https://downloads.canon.com …era_MIR_claim_form_Q4.pdf (external link) for the form. The $250 deal is down near the bottom in an offer with a pack of paper.

I also see the printer on Amazon for $328.

An update:::

1st -- I didn't know about that rebate, usually canon price watch or others advertise it, thanks for telling me.

Amazon had the printer for $328. I went to the local Best Buy and they price matched that, PLUS gave me a $75 gift card!! So I got the printer (with tax) for $350 - $200 rebate - $75 gift card for a total cost of $75!! less then a set of ink cartridges!!

Wondering what made you think you needed a print head replacement?

Only asking because mine has twice thrown an error that says to send it in for service (yeah, right) and there is nothing that can be done at home to fix it. However I found something online that said; turn the printer on and open the top to get the ink cartridges to slide left into the swap out position, after they start moving but before they get to the stop position, quickly close the lid and the tanks will go back to their “home” position.

This has cleared the error both times it has happened and the printer acts as new.

Nice score, that.
Sometimes the big players(Adorama, B&H) run a deal where they throw in the $50 of paper for free,
making you eligible for the $250 rebate, and their price on the printer puts you at a final cost of only $60.
I may have to look into your method, cause that's better than the $119 final I paid for mine,
and only $15 over that $60. It's more than worth it for the cost of inks alone, let alone inks AND printhead.

I also wonder about this. Anything specific, such as print output?

I know the photo cyan is plugged. I guess this isn't uncommon for those using precision colors refilling. Depending on how sick I get of the cost of usage, I'm thinking of sticking to oem ink this time.

One of my cousins destroyed his Epson A3 printer with non-Epson ink.
It's cheaper to buy, but not always in the long run.

How did he destroy it? I had many Epson printers that clogged up with Epson ink, I have never had that problem with my Canon printers. I live in a very dry climate that makes clogging more likely.
