I am trying to update this from 1.05 to 1.1.12 but it just gets stuck on loading 8% and then runs the battery down - any idea how to fix it?

I have looked on line but without sucess

How were you doing the update (i.e., memory card or cable connection)
When I did mine (2 of them) I loaded the update on the card and installed the card.
Took a little time, but no issues.
I did have both on a grip with two batteries, but still took maybe 10 minutes if that.

I have a photographic memory, just wish I'd remember to take the lens cap off more often!

I have a 7D MkII. How do you check with firmware version is currently running?

I ran into a similar problem once. In my case I formatted the card in the camera, copied the firmware to the card again and tried again. Worked perfectly.

It's in the last tab under the wrench icon

I can't format the card in the camera because it is stuck on uploading. If I turn it off and on again it wants to carry on with update process.

I did try formatting the card in another camera and recopying it but no good - exactly the same as before

What is the capacity of the card and what type of format (FAT, eXFat, etc.?

Maybe your downloaded file is corrupt. If you still have a copy on your computer you can see if it is good using the md5 sum. I can't remember if the value of the md5 sum is in the zip file or not. How you generate an md5 sum for the file on your computer will depend on your OS.

Can you abort the update and start again? Other than that I don't know.

Canon say "It needs a new main board." and we will charge you £200.
I am not happy as it was fine until I did the firmware, I am tempted to take them to the small claims court.
Any ideas? No idea what to do, seems very unfair.

I have three quotes - Canon are going to charge me

Canon £341.68

Thomas Camera Services Ltd £270.

H Lehman £200

Of course Canon have the camera so their quote can't go up. So I am in a quandary.

Canon don't offer a guarantee which the others do.

Has anyone used these companies?

Just a short note to add - Firmware Version 1.1.13 is now out:

Not at the US site, but in the UK. I successfully updated.

Not worth updating IMO. I only update the firmware if there is something notable. My gear doesn't link with unknown WiFi networks, just my own phone and router.
