With Capture One & other Lightroom competitors upping their game, has anyone heard of any major Lightroom upgrade coming? I'm also hoping for a great improvement in speed. Even with a brand new computer, 3.6GHz 8 core processor, 128GB ram, it is still slow at rendering catalog images. To be fair, the catalog is stored on a DROBO but it has a USB 3.0 connection.

I gave up on Lightroom about two years ago, totally happy with Capture One, more so that I ever was with Lightroom. I still pay for the photography plan as I use Photoshop but like you Lr is just to slow for me. Adobe keep saying they have improved it & year after year I've a feeling that they just let me down.

I haven’t heard anything about a new version coming (assuming you have the latest) but I’m not having performance issues either (outside of needing to restart it one a week or so).

Interestingly I don’t have your system spec either. Trying to remember specific processor but it’s an i7. I’m only running 32gb memory as I recall. I AM using M2 ssd hard drives for the operating system and software.

To me the ssd drives made a bigger difference than anything.

System performance is not the only thing to look at. Moving data is rather like moving a fluid. It is un-compressible and can move from point A to point B only as fast as the slowest pipe in the entire system. If you really want to understand why your system is slow, test each segment of the transfer individually and identify the bottleneck. Do some read/write tests to the Drobo as I suspect that the most likely candidate.

Not sure why, but call me JJ.
I used to hate math but then I realised decimals have a point.

I’m sure Drobo is the bottleneck. I have a 2TB M.2 drive but I have 5TB on the Drobo. I can’t imaging how much a 10TB M.2 drive is but it would be nice.
