Does anyone know if this is possible?

Pegasus R8 32Gb > 15m cable run > iMAC

Trying to relocate the disk array somewhere secure!

So far I have come across the Sonet and Promise Ethernet>TB2 adaptߘers but they seem to be only for connecting computers to the network at higher speeds.

Looking for a solution cheaper than the $500 Corning optical cable (which seems to be the only solution). The other solution is a computer running locally to the Raid Array to act as a server.

Many thanks in advance.

I don't know much about mac or thunderbolt, but a quick google suggests that standard thunderbolt does have a maximum cable length of 3m, that the optical cables work up to 100m, and that the cables are very expensive.

I looked at the specs and can't see any Ethernet ports - 10Gbps Ethernet would possibly be fast enough to be good enough, but you'd lose some of the benefit of the product.

My opinion from what little I know is you should stick with a 3m standard cable, and use the NAS locally. If you're worried about physical security, remember a fire can burn down a whole house as easily as a room, so you really need offsite backup storage anyway.
