For me, 50mm (or 35mm on an APS-C) has always been my favorite focal length. But since going full frame (EOS RP), I've been using 35mm and I'm liking it a lot. With a full frame camera, you can still get some subject separation, but there isn't a lot of wide angle distortion. Also, portraits taken at 35mm add more of the surrounding for some context. It's become my new favorite focal length.

when i first discovered my 35mm f2 (for film) it rarely left my camera. when i got a 2nd body, it left even less often...

primes were definitely needed because of the sketchiness of zooms (in my opinion) but now days, the 24-70 is so good, relatively fast (f2.8) i cant justify the price or the size of the 35mm f1.4L...

-im just trying. sometimes i succeed
