Which RF lens should I get?! 50mm 1.2 or 28-70 f2?

I can't decide on which lens I should get for my EOS R! I shoot mainly portraits; single, couples, families, pets.. I love the Idea of having options with a zoom but 50mm is def my favorite focal length. Not too concerned on the size and weight issue. I doubt I will be able to afford another RF lens for a long time so I want to get one I will be happy with!

50 f1.2 is my vote.

Check CPW for cheaper prices.

Get the 28-70, you will have the 50 included. 50@2.0 is still very respectable

Yeahhhh I thought about that toooo. I just think that's too specialized of a lens to pick as my "RF lens" haha

Surely it depends largely on what other lenses you have?

If none, then the zoom is a no-brainer, simply because it is waaaay more versatile while not giving away all that much in IQ and speed.

f/2.0 in a 24-70 sounds pretty darn useful to me, especially if it has IS.

If it's anywhere near as good as my 24-70L MKII - or better - then I frankly wouldn't even consider the prime.

If this will be your only lens then get the zoom.
You can rent to the 50 if you ever think its needed for some occasion

haha most likely. Went with the 50mm and I am loving it so far.

I was contemplating the same question. Well, I just got the RF 28-70 and I do not regret my decision at all, even though I have not owned the RF 50, I am sold now!
