I am going to purchase a CF card to go with a new Canon 30D which i hope to buy soon. I would like to hear opinions on which SanDisk CF card I should get. I am going to college next year in Burlington, VT (about 30 minutes from Canada) where it is really, really cold. Do I need to Extreme card or will the Ultra be fine?

The average temp in Jan is 16 degress ºF

The temps I will be living with are about 15-60 ºF on average.

I am sure there will be some days where it is below 0 ºF. I know the Extreme card is for pro photographers in rugged conditions but will I need the Extreme card when its 10 ºF??? cause -5ºF is a pretty extreme temperature to me!

thanks

Lots of posts on this. Here's one:

Here's another:

You can do a search if those 2 aren't sufficient.

Also check out Rob Galbraith's website on CF card performance and comparisons:

I'm not sure if he's run any tests with the 30D yet, but he's got a ton of info on what goes into a CF card, who makes them, things to look for, etc.

I use the Sandisk Ultra II cards in my Rebel XT. I go snowshoeing often and have had the camera in very cold conditions (below zero, but usually around 10-20F) for extended periods of time. I have not experienced any problems with CF function.

Not so's you'd notice. The battery will take more of a hit, as will your fingers.
