I am a fan of Milwaukee tools and have just about gone broke buying their tools and packout storage systems. This is the time of year they go on sale, and I came up with a great idea, or I think so anyways.

I bought another main packout roller case, on sale right now for 90 at Ace hardware.

The case will hold my gear, and I added a padded foldable stadium seat to it. This allows me to store my gear in a weather proof case, keeps it safe while I sit on it, and is the perfect seat height wise for field side shooting. The robust collapsible handle serves as a back support as an added bonus bonus.

The stadium seat has a front pocket for holding a lens too for those times I switch out lenses. When I want to move, I just wheel my seat and gear to the next vantage point. When I am done, everything goes into the case and I wheel it to the car. I may sell off one of my pelican cases now.

I will take pictures of this tomorrow but this will be very nice and thought I would share.

Do post images of the final product. Will be interesting to see of they give you any pushback from having a hard case near the field. Ive seen this sorta done before, but he had planted himself in the end zone next tot he riser for the TV camera. I've never seen one next to the field but that doesn't mean it can't be done. Keep us posted.

Where are you going to get the foam block from?

Sounds like a great idea and I am anxious to see the final result.

For high school events in this area, it won't be an issue. The TV crews have their gear, the other paid photogs actually bring a roller cart with their gear and store lenses in 5gal buckets. Also won't be an issue for rugby, or softball.

My concerns going into another season doing this were:

1) I keep my gear in a bag near me, but it wouldn't be hard for that gear to "walk off".
2) I liked the idea of a 5gal bucket with gear in it, because it would hold my Sigma 150-600, and other gear, the case is quite spacious, more so than my Pelican 1500 series.
3) I bought a camping tripod seat for easy carry and sitting, but they aren't all that comfortable.
4) I still want weather protection.
5) I am tired of camera bags, etc too when I don't have a case on wheels.
6) I want to be low to the action, because I like that perspective better, and when somebody is flying into the endzone, I don't want a picture of the top of their heads, I want to be shooting upwards a bit, like in basketball. Having gear on a monopod at head height is a bit restrictive in some cases, and better in others, so it is a give and take.

This will solve all of this, and with the handle behind the padded seat, it gives a bit of back support too, the gear is protected as I am sitting on it, and it rolls around easily with weather protection.

Also, there are some other very nice stackable items for this, like the slimline packout organizer that won't add too much seat height. This can hold batteries, cards, cables, remotes, etc. I might pick this up today.

If I want music, they also make a packout bluetooth radio! Priced too high for what it is though.

As for foam, I happen to keep a block of pluck foam from a Monoprice pelican case knockoff that I use for flash gear, just sitting on a shelf. I now have a use for it. It is probably too small though, and if so, I can just keep 2 camera bags inside the case. I might just do that anyways, because it would be easier to transport everything back into the house after a game. Should have room for a couple drinks too this way, stored in ziplocs. :D

This is my first round, but my long term goal is to build a memory cushion seat that locks onto the packout cases like all the other Milwaukee products. I just haven't purchased the items needed yet. For now, I am using my college stadium seat.

So lowest level are two levels of left over pluck foam I had, and I have my shorter lenses in that section with egg crate foam on the very bottom, and two canisters of dessicant. Also all my tubes and teleconverters are in this level for now. I will likely rearrange at the next iteration.

The next level is my Pelican 1500 series divider system that I transplanted over. All my big lenses are there, the 100-400L, 70-200L, and Sigma 150-600. I have room for my FF and also my mirrorless, but no much room now at this poit for the mirrorless lenses. My monopod just fits inside as well.

So this is gen 1, but I will evolve this system over time. My next purchase is one of the thin organizer add-ons, and it will hold my cards, batteries, lens caps, etc. I want to develop some sort of wheel lock as well, in cases where I need the case to stay in a spot while I am near, but the wheels will be locked. Not sure what I will do with that.

The bottom case handles about as much as 2 of my pelican cases. Two gripes, the case empty is already pretty heavy, and that rear handle doesn't go down any further. Both minor gripes however, considering this will hold a ton of gear in just one case, and I have other packout cases I can get for flash gear and stick it all on top of the base. However it is very comfortable to sit on, and lean back, the handle just fits the small of my back and puts a bit of lumbar support where it is needed.

I may actually sell off my 3 cases and convert to this system.

I picked up the slim organizer for $30 on sale, and will be mounting a padded seat to the lid. The compartments are capable of holding all my cards, batteries, battery chargers, lens pens, wipes, AA batteries, etc. I have a few spare compartments yet as well. This way I have storage under the seat without opening the bottom vault.

I picked up the 2nd level large case as well for $60. This now holds all my flash gear (4 flashes), 2 strobes, 2 bowens brackets, light stands and deflectors, basically all the gear I had in 2 pelican 1514 cases. Now all my flash gear can be added to this for family and senior portraits, all I have to do is move the seat/slim organizer up to the top of the stack.

So what took 3 cases and 1 large camera bag, I can just wheel this around. It is pretty wide though, which may be a con for some.

So I need to construct the permanent seat, and I have plans on completely overhauling the bottom storage bin, once I find the parts I want. When I am done, all lenses will be easily accessible, and I might even be able to store my mirrorless gear.

Ran upon this post last couple weeks. Amazing ideal, so amazing that I totally stole the ideal and ordered one a couple days ago. Shooting basketball at work is always a pain on my knees on the floor or standing so hopefully this helps

Absolutely love this idea! Found this thread last week and found a deal today through slickdeals for $65 plus tax from Home Depot. Be sure to following the instructions for the discounted price. Here is the link for anyone who may be interested:

You're welcome, the unfortunate thing is that rugby has been canceled this season, so I haven't been able to use this. :(

$65 for the main roller case, what a deal. I already have 3, or would have picked another up.
