Anyone make the switch from Lightroom to Capture One? What was the training resource you used to get yourself up to speed the fastest? I always find the manuals and company videos too boring to stick with. Anyone more interesting out there teaching Capture One tutorials?

I switched long ago and no regrets. It's not very complicated but it can be daunting to a new user until you figure it out. I just poked around until I got comfortable, but one thing I'd suggest is to make keyboard shortcuts in Capture One for the main or most used functions.

Wish I could be more help re training videos. I think the company has one or two on the basics which should get you going.

I switched this year and have no regrets. I used their own tutorials(from the link drmaxx already provided). There are quit a few short ones to help you get started without being to boring. The webinars may be a bit long but select the tutorials(I think you can even select duration) and you're good to go, I didn't think it difficult to learn.

More or less same here. I'm sure you'll get going pretty fast to do most of the basic stuff, since the program is so user-friendly, including compared to Lightroom/ACR.

Like people are saying, Capture One's own "corporate" videos are quite well done and worth a watch on a topic-by-topic basis.

Just a small piece of advice, if I may: I found catalogues a pain to work with, especially if you need to switch photos from one computer to another with any kind of frequency: highly recommended to use sessions.

This phrase is so popular around here: ‘’ I switched to Capture One and I never looked back ‘’.

Capture One is on my computer from version 8 and now I’m on Capture One 20 Pro. Whenever I open Capture One (from time to time) I always look back and then I just fire up DxO Photolab or Lightroom and do my developing there.

"Chacun son goût"
For me it is exactly the other way around. Since a few months I have free access to LR and from time to time I am firing it up (I used LR for many years) - but switch happily back to Capture One. In the end nobody cares how you produce your result and all of them are more then capable.

What was it about Capture One that you didn't like? Or was it a matter of liking the others more? I'm doing the 30 day trial of Capture One right now, so far, without quite knowing what I'm doing, I'm feeling like I get slightly better looking files from Capture One than LR. I am still back on LR 5.7, if that makes a difference.

Hi Patrick;
In general I can get better results in less time with DxO Photolab. I get nice skin tones and colors just look natural. DxO ‘’Prime’’ noise reduction also gives me the best results for high ISO images.
The same goes for Lightroom. It gives me nice skin tones and nice colors in general straight out of the box. I also like how those sliders work and the algorithm behind those sliders. I must say I don’t use Lightroom much because I hate this ‘’Import’’ thing and I hate those catalogs.
On the other hand I don’t like Capture One colors in general and it also gives me this reddish tint. All my images I open in Capture One have this reddish tint. No matter what camera profile or other profile I choose or how much I wrestle with color tools I just can’t get the colors ‘’as I see’’. Some of those sliders also does not work as I think they should.
So here is my logic; If DxO gives me good colors and Lightroom also gives me good colors and I also don’t have a problem with colors in On1 there must be something wrong with Capture One colors.

Funny how different software clicks differently with each person. Photoshop might as well be written in an alien language for all I can get out of it (very limited exposure to it though). I tried a trial version of DXO and just didn't care for the interface, tried it a time or two and stopped. LR I'm ok with, but since I picked up Capture One (3 days ago), I've been finding my results are better than what I am getting with LR, the pictures just have more clarity. I do landscapes, probably jmore leeway with colors in a landscape than there is with skin tones, haven't seen any problem in color tones. The sliders in Capture One do seem to create a greater change with less movement than they do in LR, but pretty much the same batch of sliders. I am starting to develop an attachment to C One :-), feels natural, something I don't think I'd get out of Photoshop.

Thanks for passing along your impression of it.
