I am wanting to back up old photos from my Mac to free up space. I purchased a WD SSD external drive. Is there a way that the exported photos stay in their respective albums? I know that sometimes when I have exported photos to a USB drive, they end up as individual photos without being organized into the Albums that they were in on the Mac.

I have no idea what you mean about albums on a Mac as I don't use Apple products. But regarding an SSD for backup, ensure you power it on from time to time and don't just put it away and leave it for a very long time. There are still concerns with decay of the electrical charge on SSD's - that is how they store data. It's probably not too concerning unless it's put away for many years, but just be aware they are not necessarily considered archival.

I already use some cloud based storage, Time Machine and the Mac itself, just looking to have some additional backup safety.

Photos allows your photos to be stored in Albums, specific to that particular event or shoot.

Sounds like a failure of the Apple software. I'd just organize them into folders and that way they will always be in folders.

Apple albums are essentially folders

I’m not into Apple products, but the task seems to be relatively simple and well documented on line. See https://www.howtogeek.com …ary-to-an-external-drive/ (external link)
