Now that I have a real job, I'm considering replacing my Canon T4i with something newer and better.

Most of my photography is macro, with most of that indoor macro on a Wemacro rail, and still life.

I do occasional landscape and urban photography.

There will never be serious portraits or video.

I've got the lenses I need for the time being, Canon 18-55mm and 55-250mm kit lenses, a Tokina 100mm macro lens, and a couple of 500mm mirror lenses, as well as 4x and 10x finite objectives.

My preference would be reconditioned or lightly used.

Any suggestions based on the facts I've laid out?

Thanks.

The primary differences between the rebel and XXD series has always been a much improved control system. For that reason I would buy the most advanced of the 80D or 90D that your budget will support.

I could probably swing a used 80D now, but the 90D (no used ones at Adorama or B&H right now) would have to wait until next summer probably.

Thanks.

Most of them have flip screens now. Size isn't really an issue for me, since I do no traveling for photography (or much of anything else).

Cameras will likely be like new and come with a full warranty.

I periodically check with them, but often what I'm looking for is out of stock. They do have 80Ds though.

Check the "approved" lens list for the 90D. If yours fit, I suggest the 90D. If they aren't listed go for an 80D refurb.

Canon store refurbs are great. My 60D refurb has been going for almost 9 years, now has 134,000 actuations (came with only 49 actuations!) and still working.

Very best,

A very key question to ask yourself. Don't merely buy 'newer' for newer's sake. There is only about 15% higher resolution (single axis improvement) between your T4i and the very newest bodies.
So what features do you thing are lacking, or insufficient in your T4i?!
Things like video at 60fps vs. 30fps won't matter to you since you aren't seriously into video.

So you think I wouldn't gain much for macrophotography?

I don't think macro demands that much from a camera body.

If you bought the 90D, your resolution would improve quite a bit, from 18 to 32 mp, which is around 34% on each axis. That gives more croppability, which is like higher effective magnification. If you do available-light macro in light-stressed conditions, you might have less noise with a current-generation sensor. Not sure what other useful advantages a new body would offer for macro.

It is real nice to get new gear, though. And a new body might open up new avenues for you.

Not really...ability to shoot in -1EV lower light is not much advantage for macro, nor is 15% better resolution much improvement.
If you want more pro handling, go 80D or 90D, not 7Ti or 77D.

The approx 45% better resolution of the 90D (compared to your current camera) does permit better croppability thna your current camera....crop off 45% off one axis and still have the same final resolution as you current camera full frame.
