Locally, I have come across a canon 5dm3/5dmiii and was curious on what one would give value for it. It's brand new, 0 clicks. Box and everything that would be included as if bought new.

Wanting to upgrade from my 5dmii and trying to decide on a tried and true 5dmiii or going the R/RP route for newer tech.

Thanks, feel free to move thread. Didn't particularly see any place this should go.

I, personally, wouldn't pay more than $500 for it.

Realistically, market value is around $800-1200, as of right now.

Anything north of $1200, you'd be better off with a 5D IV.

Thanks! That's kind of where I am on it.

It's an upgrade from what I have, but can get the R for slightly more or the RP for around the same and have newer tech(be the R/RP lacking to some or not)

Yes, I would get the R at this point if you can swing it.

Yea, I've posted in that thread. I'm going to call them tomorrow (if they arent open today).

I still think the 5dm3bis a solid deal for a camera with no clicks.

Well, whether it is a solid deal or not would depend on the price, wouldn't it? . And so far you haven't told us the price of this 5D3. . So we really can't know if it is a "solid deal" or not.

More info from you would be appreciated.

And to add to this, it's entirely possible to grab a lightly-used 5D MkIV for a very low price
as opposed to factory-new, largely due to recent new-model introductions and a strong
(unconfirmed)potential of a Mk V before the series is folded into a new mirrorless replacement.
The mentioned potential rides along beside the recent announcement of 'active development'
of a new 1D update, presumably to be ready for the next Olympic Games.

Above all that, I've read numerous mentions of how the Mk IV exceeds the Mk III
in all aspects, and that the Mk III isn't nearly the upgrade from the Mk II, as much as
the Mk IV is over both.

I think the easiest way to determine a fair price on private sale is to use a number between what you get when you sell to a reputable reseller such as keh, and how much they are selling the item for.
The was in the market to sell 2 5dm3 a few months ago so I was keeping an eye on the price as well. I end up selling to a store because there isn't much demand and there are too many on the market at the time as alot of people are moving out of canon. I might be able to get maybe 100-200 more but the time saved is well worth it for me.

Could you tell us how much the store gave you for your 5D3? . Having the actual price you were paid would be quite pertinent information for this thread and the specific info that the OP was seeking.

I sold a 5d3 a few weeks ago for $850 and it had 230,000 clicks. I'm surprised I got that much for it. Its a capable camera, with deplorable dynamic range. keep in mind that this 2012 camera has like 2008 quality ISO and dynamic range. That said, IMNSHO its still more than enough for the average wedding, family shoot, etc. Its tough to own this camera today and be a natural light photographer, as if such a concept shoudl even be taken seriously. People shots with a 5d3 really need to have light added and a good tripod for bracketing landscape images so you can HDR. Jack of all trades, expert in none in 2019.

Brand new I might be willing to pay up to $1,000 for it, if I needed a dual card slot camera. Otherwise an EOS R or 5dIV is going to be a much better camera insofar as image and features quality goes.

One advantage of going this route would b ethat you'll have money left over for a good selection of lenses, lighting, and modifiers, if you're just starting out and need to get a little bit of everything.

$1000? That's crazy to spend on a piece of junk.

It's listed for 1000. Was thinking of buying and reselling, but it does not seem worth the possible hassle. I see some with 60k clicks on the 900-1100 range, but to try and get more than that, may take a minute. Maybe not, but not going to need with it

The route is definitely going to be EOS R for me at this point.

I'd maybe get the 5dm3 if I knew I could make money on it.

Thanks everyone for the replies thus far

I wouldn't do it for a $100 profit. That's one day of work for most people, much easier than putting down $1000.
