Apologies, I know it isn't "digital" but I don't think there is a more appropriate forum on this site.

I've had my EOS 3 for over 10 years and really like it. It also allows me to share the nice glass I use on my 6D. My EOS 3 looks mint but it has some issues which I can just about live with but the probably are not going to get better as the years progress.

I know Canon here in the UK won't touch it but I was wondering if there was anyone worldwide who services these bodies to a high standard and importantly, has access to spare parts?

If anyone wonders what the problems are, firstly the autofocus system. The EOS 3 has 45 autofocus points, the middle 7 of which are supposed to be the cross type if your glass is f/2.8 or faster. The remaining points are horizontal types. With my camera, all of the autofocus points will only act as horizontal type points. This fault has been there for quite a few years and may have been there when I bought the camera.

The second, more recent problem is the mirror staying up after a shot. This seems to be a common problem caused by a sticking electro magnet. Powering off the camera releases the mirror and all is well. This only happens occasionally but I reckon it will only get worse. Thanks.

Your best bet is to contact Canon service and ask them but it's probably cheaper to pick up a used body than to fix the one you have now. Just looking on KEH, they have two, one for $300 and another for $350. I'm guessing that there is some place similar in the UK that sells used cameras.

Not sure why, but call me JJ.
I used to hate math but then I realised decimals have a point.

The problem with buying another one used is that there is a good chance that it will have the same fault (the mirror fault) because it only manifests itself once every 50 or so shutter clicks. A new part might guarantee 10 years trouble free use. I think that Japan is probably the only place that someone might have the skills and a supply of spare parts.

Around here, I use a local repair shop that will try (and succeed) to fix a lot of things that Canon will not.
I can't help you with any in the UK, but my local place here in little old Rhode Island gets work from Brazil (for example)
