Leaving in a few weeks for 9 days in Italy.

Currently own a 7D Mk II.

Have a Canon 70-200 f/2.8 (should I bring it at all?)

Canon 24-105 f4/L
Canon 50mm f/1.8

Was considering a wide zoom like the Tokina 11-20 f/2.8 for landscapes/street/inside churches, etc.

Should I spend the money on this wide lens or get a different range?

Want to stick around $600

Thanks!

The 11-18 will be a good wide angle for church interior. 24 on a crop body is not wide enough. I would skip the 50 1.8 and just bring the 3 zooms.

When I was in Italy I primarily used my ultra wide. I’d also suggest the 11-18 and save your extra money for all the gelato.

I spent a week in Rome in April, and I used my 17-40mm almost exclusively, especially inside churches. I also had my 24-70mm which worked well, too.

I brought my 70-200mm f/2.8 and used it once. I doubt I would take it again...

Just shut up and smile...

My own preferences for wide angle on 135 format when shooting in Europe were that 28mm was not wide enough, and only 24mm would bring satisfaction and contentment...in APS-C that means 15mm for that same AOV.

I have owned the Tokina 11-20, which I found to be an excellent lens. I actually traded it for a Tokina 12-28, which is one stop slower, not quite as good in the corners, and has a much more useful zoom range. My favorite APSc UWA zoom is the Sigma 8-16mm f/4.5-5.6. The biggest tip I can offer for shooting with UWA is to SHUT OFF THE AF. Use the smallest aperture you can manage, and zone focus.

6yrs ago, I brought two lenses, Tokina 11-16 and Sigma 18-35, with 7D. I cannot quantify the amount of photos were taken between the two but I do remember having to change out the lenses very often. So the Tokina was very useful. The Sigma was a no brainer, it's a good-all-around lens.

My European Travel kit consists of 2 Gripped 5D Mark III’s, the Canon 16-35 f/4 L IS, 24-70 f/4 L IS and the new 70-200 f/4 L IS Mark II. I prefer f/4 over f/2.8 not only for smaller lighter form but also for IS. Shooting Hand Held bracketed Images at 1/10” with sharp results. When I was using a 7D my 10-22 was a great Ultra-Wide Zoom. Very happy with it.
If I could only take two lenses on a 7D, 10-22 and a 70-200 no doubt.
When in Rome, I used my 16-35 and 70-200 in combination, with my old 24-105 in the hotel most of the time.

Have the Tokina, and hate it. It is too soft in the corners to be any good. I know its more work but even sticking image together from your 50mm will result if far better image, and a lot sharper. Its so easy to do now in LR... Ultra wides just have issues. Light flare. Softness in the corners. Many are slow. In my opinion you would be better off using your iPhone. Just my experience.... others milage may be a lot better.

Edit... guess I was a little late to the show on this one. So what did you use.... and how were your results?
