With 50+ players, I would have gone for a few extra rows. Maybe seat them in the bleachers if you have them? You could try an arrow formation for the smaller group, I've found it works a little better for odd numbers.

I hate groups that big. I know time is usually compressed when doing things, or at least if feels that way to me, but in the back there I see at least two benches. If you had the time perhaps next time put the benches behind allowing for a fourth row to stand on it, compressing the sides in and allowing for more even lighting - though your shot here will likely be fine after cropping. But it might have gotten the group tight enough to not have the background poll and noise in the shot.

That said, nice job lighting the big group. Looks about as even as you were going to be able to get it. Large groups are tough.

The set up was all the coaches doing, he has it all figured out before hand down to which hand is on top in the front row even. I just light it, shoot it and edit it for him. Not exactly sure what he has in mind for that great big one but what coach wants, coach gets!!

Thanks for all the suggestions though. The smaller group shots were just candids at the end the kids wanted and weren't for anything else but fun. Here's a couple more from them.

"What coach wants, coach gets", lol. You are so correct, and sadly what I find is that MOST coaches don't have a clue, but as long as the bill gets paid, who are we to argue, right??!! I actually cringed when I saw that first shot, and based on your previous posted works, I knew that wasn't your idea, lol.
