So after wanting one for years I finally did it and ordered a new 70-200 f2.8 L Mark III and Teleconverter. I had done some extra trauma call and saved up some cash to do it. LOL. Anyway I look forward to trying it out AFTER Christmas. I have to wrap it and put in under the tree.

Also bought Canon extended warrantee on each.

It's a slippery slope. I remember years ago when I bought the 70-200II. I told myself, "That's it. With a 2.0 tele-converter, I truly have no practical need for any other telephoto lens." At the time I was doing weddings, mini sessions, and very occasionally shooting backyard wildlife.

Then, less than 2yrs later, the mailman walks a 100-400II up my driveway.

LOL.

My middle kid is wrestling in HS and actually had a reason to buy this thing. My 70-300 non-L zoom is ok, but soft at 300 mm. Sometimes the matches are in a dark gym with only one over head light on. I used my 28-70 F2.8 L for that day and it was great. The 70-200 2.8 should be perfect for this, the 2x was just for the hell of it.

as far as 100-400......not sure I'll ever have that itch to scratch.

Awesome! I'm jealous. I just bought the 24-70mm f/2.8L II to start my holy trinity set. I can't wait to get the 70-200mm next! The shots look really nice with the teleconverter. How does the autofocus work with the 2x teleconverter? I'm debating on getting one for my daughter's dance competitions after I get my 70-200.

I found the auto focus excellent. Plenty fast and accurate.

The minute I started to read ISO 20,000, I knew immediately it must be a 1DX.
