I recently purchased a Canon TS 24mm and I have to say, I love it. The things you can do with a TS is quite amazing.

For a bit of fun, I tried panning with it, bviously not the easiest of skills to perfect with a manual focus lens.

However, I took a few frames with this being the best, I know far from good.

However, it got me thinking that maybe with the subject, fast cars or bikes you could get an interesting image with just one element of the image in focus.

Has anybody tried this?

Is it a waste of time?

Thanks
Simon.

Photography is art, and in art nothing is a waste of time.
I mean my God, tape a banana to a wall with duct tape and get $120,000 for it ? ? ?
Playing around with a TS lens and possibly developing a new style, a unique look can only be a positive.
Keep playing.

Shooting those is fun for me because it's a bit like Christmas before I open a present. I'm never sure what will be in there. Here's two out of maybe 200 shots.

Nice capture! That is a nice lens. I rented one several years ago. That is the one thing I want to do more of. Panning. I messed around with it a few weeks ago. First one at 1/15. speed. Gonna put some effort into it this year.

I have not seen this done with a TS lens. From your posted example I would say it would be worth continuing with. Looks like you could get some interesting effects (just don't to miniature, please ;-)a). I wonder what tilting vertically would look like?

That's awesome, Frank!

Now you've inspired me to look into doing this with wildlife and birds on the run or in flight. . But if T/S lenses are manual focus, then I'm not sure how I'll ever be able to get a critter's face tack sharp as it blitzes past me at high speed. . At least with cars on a track, you know where they're going to be and can pre-focus.

Maybe there's a reason I've never seen images exactly like this with truly wild animals at full speed right there at point-blank range. . Hmmmmm.

.

"Your" and "you're" are different words with completely different meanings - please use the correct one.
"They're", "their", and "there" are different words with completely different meanings - please use the correct one.
"Fare" and "fair" are different words with completely different meanings - please use the correct one. The proper expression is "moot point", NOT "mute point".

Thanks, everyone.
Tom, you can still have some fun with birds. Lotsa' DOF with the slow shutter speed helps with manual focus lenses. Trying to keep a focus point on the part you most want to be sharp tends to reduce the blur on that part.

I used Tri-X for these:

I still think that this was oart of the plan in that story... and the fact that the vast majority of people don't even seem to know about this part of the story further adds to the performance "art" of it imo... people don't talk about or remember the guards covering up "Epstein didn't kill himself", they only talk about the 120k banana.
