I have a Sony A7R III. The small glass in front the the mirror box has cracked. I would like to replace it. I have looked up on youtube how to replace the mirrorbox. What I found so far is a video based on the Sony A7R II. Based on that video the mirrobox can be removed without removing the back plate of the camera and opening the main body. I have tried to do the same however the small cover keeping the mirrobox is stuck and I can't remove it.

My question:

Is there anybody here who opened up a Sony A7R III? Do I have to open up the frame of the camera and remove the back plate to remove the mirrorbox?

Thanks!

The Sony A7/A9 series cameras do not have mirrorboxes, or mirrors as they are not SLR type cameras. What part are you actually trying to replace?

I use a Canon 5DIII and a Sony A7rIII

^^^ That. A picture of what you are trying to do would be helpful. When you pop off the lens you should be seeing the shutter blades as it does not have a mirror. If the shutter is stuck open you should see the sensor itself. If the sensor is cracked, there is little you can do.

Not sure why, but call me JJ.

Hmmmm... I'd have thought in most cases you'd see a hotmirror/IR filter in front of the sensor so potentially not all is lost.... but yes a picture would help immensely

going by Lifepixel's website their IR conversion process involves removing the hotmirror filter, so guess it could be that that is broken?

some fairly old canon camera stuff, canon lenses, Manfrotto "thingy", and an M5, also an M6 that has had a 720nm filter bolted onto the sensor:

Perhaps what is meant is the viewfinder lens? Removing the back plate is mentioned....
