Superb!

Thanks, but it's a b... to shoot. I didn't even use any lights since my batteries are still charging. Once full, I will reshoot.

Haven't been up Mt Eden since they banned vehicles a couple of years back so the "new" part is having to hike up the local hill instead of driving.
Todays' late afternoon light (manual WB set to "cloudy") is coming primarily through the smoke from the Australian bush fires some 2,000 Km or so away.

At 3pm it reminded me much like the solar eclipse I viewed in the early '80s, can't imagine what it's like closer to and around the fires themselves - thoughts go out to those affected.

joeseph..
A terrible tragedy for Australia.. As a Californian, we know that fire is a fact of nature, but with the Climate Crisis the fires are huge and out of control.
Keeping hope alive that your fires will soon be contained!

Beautiful photo, but in a sad context. Keep safe.

I have a terrible keeper rate (below %1) when I try oil and water. I had given up on it, until this week's topic prompted me to try again. As luck would have it, I got a few good shots.

You hit the jackpot this time. Those are so clean and geometrically perfect that I'd have thought them digital art, not photos, if I didn't know.

The fires are major stories in U.S. news, including photos of bright red skies. Predictions for the future of normal life in Australia are grim, and the smoke will exacerbate the causes worldwide. It's a horror. I wish I could do something. Just feeling bad doesn't help.

This is a very small kind of newness of technique, exercised in a genre that most people don't even care about. I haven't much experience shooting anything that moves. This time I shot near an intersection (because that's where the can was) and paid a lot of attention to the background, taking several shots until the traffic produced a composition I liked.

I hit the like button, but I really hate the concept, Joeseph. Some of my my family members and friends in Oz are in trouble. One has lost his home and another is about to. Heart-breaking. My kiwi friends are seeing and feeling the clouds from Oz. have friends in Victoria, NSW and ACT and they're all affected. Stay safe.

Found some shaped bokeh temps among some old SLR stuff I got from a neighbor. Never have shot shaped bokeh before.

Late late entry. i picked up a reverse grad ND filter over the thanksgiving break but never got a chance to use it. So, here is my capture of the sky just around sunset. A sliver of the sun was just above the horizon :-) Wasn't as colorful as i was hoping, but thats something out of my control :-)

Really hard to describe how seeing the skies in N.Z. have been the past few days and relating them to events that are unfolding so far away - makes one more aware of how small this planet really it I guess. Hope they find a resolution soon

NEW THEME

Well, again, nothing from me, as it is The Palm Springs International Film Festival time! So many movies, so little time.. and no time for the camera.
Thanks for an interesting week, however. And think of the new things you all learned!! :p

Its hard to see the so called natural disasters occuring with alarming frequency all around the world. Its even harder to see people not connecting the dots. But i must restrain my words here, no sense in inviting a ban. :-)

I know exactly what you mean. As a consumer, I try. I haven't _____ or _____ since 19__, at least. I _____ and _____ as much as possible and ______ my _____ until they ______. Of course, we do have to _____ our _____ and use some _____, but in moderation. Still, there are limits on what individuals can do, and most people wouldn't want to go without their _____ and _____.
