Dragging up an older thread. Finally got around to editing some of my shots from 2020. Here is a shot at Schwabacher Landing, Grand Teton National Park in September, 2020. It rained/snowed overnight, hence the lower clouds in front of the mountains.

It looks like a painting

Thanks! Unfortunately, I found some issues in my editing that I am going to have to go back and fix before I can enter it into IPC later this month. But it is close to being ready to go. I need to bring the saturation of the sky out some, without darkening the clouds and enhance the contrast of the mountains some. But, other than that, it is close to being ready.

We have threads for contests, but I couldn't find anything for PPA or IPC related, specifically. Might be a good one to start. But, not everybody here is a member of PPA or participates in IPC and may not know the rules of IPC (or what makes an image merit). So, I have been hesitant to open a new thread just for IPC images. But, it might be a good idea. Could get some very useful feedback from some very good photographers here.

IPC = International Photographic Competition

IPC is an annual event that is held for member of PPA. It encompasses a wide range of photographic topics and prints are graded on 12 different factors (see the PPA IPC website). But, the gist of it is, it is mainly for improving your own skills. It is not a photojournalist competition, but a print competition. The difference is that you can manipulate an image, removing stray artifacts, enhancing features, etc. It can be a lot of fun, but very nerve wracking to hear judges pick apart an image that you spent hours on perfecting. Here is a link to the winners from last year. As you can see, for the most part, the bar is pretty high.

That is a fairly stunning image; very nice. Would be interested to see what the final final result looks like in comparison. I *think* I see what you're talking about for tweaks, but it would be interesting and informative to see, if you wouldn't mind sharing once you're ready to go.

Here is the image above that I reworked yesterday and this morning. It's still not exactly what I want, but it is closer.

And with regard to what I changed about it, I noticed in the sky, to the right of the peak, some artifacts from masking in Photoshop, as well as some issues at the tops of some of the other peaks. I also cleaned up some of the tree line, so that there weren't so many dark, shadowy spots to "pull" your eye away from the intent. I wanted the eye to follow one of the two leading lines, either the riverbank on the left or right up to the mountain range.

It is, and thank you. But, I still haven't hit on just that right amount of saturation of the blue in the sky. It was washed out in the original and I am trying to recover it without making the clouds darker and more prominent. My photoshop skills are being tested.
