Just received my new M6 Mk II a week or so ago and haven't had much of an opportunity to work with it yet.

I find it odd that this thread hasn't already been started here.

Are the anymore M6 Gen 2 users here? Let's talk and share!

I purchased a Viltrox EF-EOS M2 speed booster for mine. The camera reports it as v. 1.2. I have repeatedly (with multiple machines and cables) upgraded the speed booster to v. 1.4 (and have even tried 1.3) and though the upgrade seems to always be successful, the M6 Mk II continues to report v. 1.20. I am thoroughly convinced this is an anomaly in the relationship between the newer M6 Mk II and the Viltrox and believe the upgrade actually worked and is simply not reporting properly.

I do not have another m-mount to try it on to see.

Viltrox has run out of options and suggests I return it to B&H for another. I'm just not convinced because nothing seems to go wrong except the fact that it doesn't "seem" to work. LOL I'm equally convinced at this point that returning it for another would simply lead to hassle and ultimately the same result.

Does anybody know anything or of a support forum where somebody else may have seen this behavior?

I really thought this thread would have had more activity by now. This is probably the nicest APS-C Canon I have ever owned and I have owned quite a few. This thing is a mini-R and in some ways even better yet nobody seems to be talking about it or using it. Amazing.

Thanks!

I'm just wondering if it's the lens firmware that the camera displays, have you viewed the lens on a different camera, just a thought.

According to Viltrox, the camera shows the adapter v. number where the lens info is so long as it's attached. This has been verified by seeing the lens FW values change when using the Canon adapter with my other EF lenses.

I do not have nearby access to another M-mount camera, though I have posted to FB to see if any of my friends have one. That would be my next test if I had local access.

Upon further testing in conjunction with a collegue over at DP Review, we have pretty much completely confirmed that the M6 Mk II is reporting the version number wrong for the Viltrox speed booster for some unapparent reason. We are still testing and I have reported our findings to Viltrox to see if they will test and confirm internally. I will report back here when we know more.

For anyone that's interested in how it works, it has worked flawlessly for me so far. Pixel peepers may find softness, but I haven't seen it for normal photography and videography. The best way to express my findings is that I would gladly spend that $150 over again to buy another one if I didn't have one.

I just picked up mine last week. Loving it so far. My last camera purchase was my 7D which has been gathering dust to be honest. Have a family holiday planned for this year to Orlando and thought this would be a great choice. Just trying to decide on lenses. Got the 18-150 with it which should be great for daytime activity in the sun. Not convinced this will be the best choice for evenings / low light indoors. Having a hard time chosing between the 22mm and 32mm. Very tempted to get the 32mm but wonder if the 22 would be better with the wider angle for family shots (6 of us). Or maybe both! Or maybe the Sigma!

I don't have this camera (Yet!) but I do know folks are saying the 32 IQ is much better than the 22, near "L" quality, some say. I would own it already if it had IS.

Has anyone upgraded to the Mark II from an M50? I'd be very interested in knowing your thoughts in comparison. I'm sure I'll miss the flippy screen but not the older, smaller sensor and poorer autofocus.

I have the Sigma 30 and like it a lot, as well as the Sigma 56. If I wanted something REALLY compact though that 22mm is sweet. Very small lens, and really good IQ.

I went back and forth on the M50 for months and months, essentially waiting on whatever was next. I can tell you this. I LOVE my 80D... and I haven't picked it up since I got the Mk II. My R is my go-to, but I shoot a lot of crop too by choice, and for travel, this thing is gonna be da stuff.

Caved in today and ordered the 22mm which is due to arrive in the morning :-D Think I'll play around with it for a while and see how I get on. Going to hold off on the Sigma 30mm / Canon 32mm choice for now, well at least until after the weekend! It's like a domino effect. I haven't bought anything camera related in ages and now the addiction is starting over again!
