Did a hike in the San Gabriel Mountains on the Rubio Canyon Trail yesterday and came upon a pygmy owl. Apparently, this is the first sighting of a pygmy owl on this trail (as verified by ebird reviewers), and it is very rarely seen at these lower altitidues in SoCal.
