Lot of good updates in this release, but I'd have a tough time deciding if the new camera is worth it over the 1DX2. In my short time as an owner, I was never let down by the camera in any way, so to me the advances in the 1DX3 are "nice-to-haves", and not "must-haves".

If I had to pick, these are the things that would have benefited my birding work the most:

- possible increase in sharpness from the revised low pass filter
- improved high ISO noise handling
- AF-ON button AF-point feature is really interesting. Since using the EOS R and my Fuji cameras with their Touch & Drag AF, I find the old joystick so slow and cumbersome. Having this faster way to adjust AF points would be amazing.

Really, it's mostly on the IQ side of things in post where these updates would be most appreciated, but again, I had no complaints whatsoever w/ the 1DX2, so these things wouldn't have me busting down the door to upgrade. A 30MPX sensor and no AA filter would have prompted me to update to the 1DX3, post haste, no questions asked.

So, will Canon release a mini-1DX3 in the form of the 7D3? :-)

Others will want the video modes as this rivals or surpasses the 1D cinema series body, along with the "no buffer limit" or "ludicrous buffer limit" and the burst rates.

The Deeply Learned (ie. AI, because Learning implies continuous process, which it isn't) might be interesting for the object tracking in the VF as well. I played with face/iTR in the 5D4 VF before, and it didn't work very well.

I am sure the algorithm is doing something like "if there are more than X points locked onto a subject and subject looks like a human body, the head is usually located X cm behind that so move focus back each time" and a bunch of other rules.

If they release a 7D3 with the H sensor that was basically a 1Dx2 at 1.3 crop factor

I would buy one in a heartbeat

I love everything about this camera except the 20mp sensor, I was hoping for at least a 30mp sensor, guess I'll be sticking with my Mark II.

Well I hope it is good, sold my last 1dx II yesterday. Seriously, this new one looks really good. I think it tops out the II in many areas. Honestly I would have liked the higher MP but the EOS R has 30mp and when I process both I do not see that big of a difference for the final output. I feel it would really need to be 36mp or higher to make much of a difference. The video specs are really nice. Full touch capable screen is so much nicer after using the EOS R. AF button will be so nice for moving the AF point. In the white paper it states it can AF at f11, that will be nice with certain combos. Hopefully Canon will deliver on time and I can report back a few of my findings. I will still have Amy's 1dx II to compare to, which will be fun.

The white paper is a good read for those interested.

Thanks for sharing. The white paper does a great job of showing the differences between MKII and MKIII. And there are a LOT of differences - all good.

After reading this, I must rent the 1DXIII when available.

I don't have any lenses that will mount on a 1DX3. Dodged a $6500 bullet :-)

Speaking of lenses, my dream combo would be the 1DX3 and the 600 III.
But instead, I'll rent the 1DX3 and see how it works with my 300 f2.8 IS II + 2xIII.

Not to get off topic, but unless you use the 600mm at 1200mm a lot then seriously look at the 400mm III, it is outstanding with extenders. You do not lose speed at all with the 2x attached, it is amazing. Best lens I have used. I love the MFD, smaller package, and the ability to f 2.8 when needed for larger birds/mammals. Do not get me wrong they are both amazing pieces of glass.

The 600 III on the 1DX2 was utterly perfect, loved that combo. Very heavy rig though, and I'm inclined to agree with Rob in recommending the 400 III if you aren't needing the utmost reach.

I'll consider it, thanks. Whatever lens I end up with, it will only be used for AIF (aircraft in flight) ;-)a
And I consider myself a sharpness & detail freak. Me thinks for absolutely the best sharpness I would need a lens without an extender.
That's why the 600mm is on my list.

Nice you get 2 64GB cards. Here in the US we get only one 64gb. Canada gets a 512gb and a battery but it is a bit higher price. Looks like a fun camera for sure. Looking forward to it.

Yeah one card and the reader will be in the box from Canon(only for a limited time!) and another 64GB card is what the cam shop is adding as a incentive to buy from them!
