Tom, thank you for the great challenge! Wow, we had so many fantastic entries. Thanks for the runner up spot (preferred, lol)! :p

Congrats to Jason for getting that special shot. Well done.

Thanks for the challenge Tom. Congrats to Jason.

Sorry, I just got home from work and have still yet to eat. I'll get the next challenge up shortly...

Tom, thank you for the challenge.

Martin, Tim, Don, Renata, Ed, Chuck, danger, Ltdave, dark and Lesley, all wonderful photographs.

About my photograph, it was taken during the last North American total solar eclipse (next one is in 2024), and from my location the eclipse only reached to 69%. Still, it's a solar eclipse. Also, I was lucky I had that day off, too. 2017 was a busy year for sunspots, but 2019 has been quite quiet.

A few numbers: the Sun (Sol) has a diameter of 864,000 miles, while the topmost sunspot in the AR2671 cluster is roughly twice to three times the diameter of Earth. One of the small dots around the sunspot cluster, called a pour, would roughly equate to the diameter of the moon, which is 2,150 miles.

Thank you, again.

Next challenge up after I eat...

jason

cheap amazon 3 sided light tent with the black velveteen backdrop and a black jacket to cover the translucent white side panels...

lay the big maglite down, use a little mueum putty on the smaller maglight and 'stick' it into place...

you can see the exif data (i THINK) and then underexpose by about 2 stops. mostly because i didnt want to shoot it at 12500 or higher ISO and f2.8 is all i had. 1/40' was as slow as i felt comfortable handholding...

lots of issues i dont like about this shot anyway...

-im just trying. sometimes i succeed

Ed,

This is quite fantastic! I can't help but to wonder two things .....

Was that man's face really there on the brickwork, or did you Phtoshop it in?

Did you know the woman and child, or were they just passersby?
.

Congratulations Jason and Lesley! Great competition Tom!
BTW...that's the Crown Fountain in Millennium Park. It's 50 feet tall and had many different faces being flashed on its face. It's lit up by LED's and, no, I did not know the mom & kiddo, they were just "there" LOL!
