I'm not sure if this is the right place for this. But I'm going to post here anyway.

I'm going to DragonCon (Think ComicCon) in September 2020...in downtown Atlanta. This will be my 9th year attending. But it will be my first year with a FF (6dm2). At the time of this posting, I'm most likely going to be renting a lens (maybe 2) for the trip. If any one has any recommendations on a lens, I'd be willing to entertain them.

The running list I have so far.

24-105 f/4 II
24-70 f/2.8 II
70-200 f/2.8. III

Heres the rundown:

Most of the time its pretty crowed.85,000 attendees last year. A lot of the time you're in Human, Bumper-to-bumper traffic.
Indoors auditorium, watching a live panel 200 yards away from a guess speakers (some TV or movie star)
I do have a pile of basic kit lenses. (Nifty 50 f/1.8, 28mm f/2.8, 75-300 f/4-5.6).

I'm not married to Canon lenes. That just all that I've looked at. But I was about to check out some Tamron/Sigma/Whoever tonight. Anyways. Thanks for any advice :)

Buy a Tokina 12-28mm f/4 for your T3i, it is perfect for those tight quarters. Leave the 6DII at home.

If you have been there 9 times, you have a way better understanding on what you will need and the shooting conditions than probably all here as you know exactly what to expect and exactly what you like to shoot. Take a look at the other 9 years and what lenses you used the most or which lenses were your favorite to shoot with. Then divide the mm of the lens by 1.6 to get a FF equivalent.

Not sure why, but call me JJ.
I used to hate math but then I realised decimals have a point.

24-105 only. You will not need anything else. The hall should be quite bright and you will not be shooting at long distances. You should do your research on the venue to make sure. If the light sucks then bring the 24-70. Problem there is you might want something longer and hauling around the 70-200 would suck.

I've been to many Cons and hauling around gear sucks, even wearing a backpack stinks... and may not even be allowed so check on that either. When it gets packed in the aisles it's tough to maneuver with too much gear. Go light, you won't regret it.

Perhaps bring a speedlight maybe and a trigger so you can put it on a monopod. I love this setup for Cons.

First half is true. But I’m still very new to the 6Dm2. But I’ve never had higher end glass. I’ve used a 70-200 f/2.8 mkiii and it was the best thing...well, ever. Upgrading my lenses was partly why I got the body I did. I used the aforementioned lens right after it was released on a T3i. Hands down, the best images of my life we taken with that lens. So. I saved money on the body (6dm2) and I’d like to spend it on good glass.

Way off track. But yeah, I’ve been trying to recall what I’ve used at different times. The 50 was too close indoors, but not bad outside or in open areas.

On any of the panels, if I’m in the first 10 rows, I can probably get by with f/4 to 5.6. But some of those places get packed. You can be 200 yards from the panel, if you’re in the last row.

Yeah man! This makes the 9th year going. The lighting typically blows in the hauls and or inside the host hotels. If I were to bring the 70-200 2.8, I’d have almost nothing else in my bag. I’m semi-used to hauling lots of stuff around with hiking. But it’s a different animal when you’re in downtown Atl in the middle of summer.

The 24-105 is sounding more appealing the more I think about it. It’s a good range to be in with a constant aperture.
