But suppose the handle assembly can rotate so that the extensions are vertical. That's how I think it works.

Correct Charles. When it's open it's a safety feature and no trapped fingers and when it's shut , a security feature feature to keep thieves out.

Great idea init 8-)

As far as I know the handles don't go vertizontical OH?

Don't they turn? Maybe not 90°, but enough to operate the latch and get themselves out of the way.

It seems to me they HAVE to turn or you will never be able to CLOSE the door!!

Now I am not sure who is pulling who's leg? You pulling mine or me yours?

It's just a wind up and if you are not familiar with that expression in the New World it means that I was taking the wee wee, or if not that one then, errr?:rolleyes::rolleyes:

As you well know, a lever (pronounced leeever in English English) door handle can't be mounted that way or it would not work even if it did either provide and finger trap hazard relief or security.

Ohhhhh dog, have you ever wished that had never started something. When we first moved to France and I was TRYING to learn French most of the time I only opened my mouth to change feet. Just as well that out French neighbours were such wonderful people

Well! John! And here's me thinking what an ingenious idea :p
I'd picture a door style with a gap cut out for the handle to pass through when turned. :-P
You'd best right the situation and post another picture.

Actually there's no reason a handle couldn't be made to turn 180°, that would then allow this to work.
I'd love to see people's faces when they saw the door shut :-P

You're the leg puller here. Maybe Inspeqtor too; I can't swear to his intentions. As to workability, just ask Richard (see below).

Exactly! 90° would be more than enough, though. Results depend on the resting position of the handles. What happens when you let go? If the door was open, do the handles hold it ajar, which could be useful? Or do the handles stay up (or down), as your hand left them?

Well, it is the smallest room! Although I'm still trying to work out how to get in there and so far I've got nothing to go on -?

John just a suggestion :-P
Take the door off and either
1: hang hessian in its place
2: swing the door on the outside
3: just take the door off and leave the opening

Other options come to mind :-P
C'mon get creative man :-P

I seriously am not trying to pull any persons leg, or arm, or anything else. I am being totally serious as I do not see how those work without the handle turning 90°

How can you close the door with the handle in the position shown in the photo above???

Read my signature

I'm just trying to put up one of those shade sail things and have had to come in out of the sun for my morning coffee. It's only 26ºC out there, but it's in a real sun trap and no wind so it feels quite warm! I've even put my steel toecap flip flops on, just in case 8-)

This was an unusual commission a little while back. Lead weighted head on it for a better whack!

It's not a cosh, well it is of sorts I suppose? It's a fisherman's priest and it's for bashing fish on the head, but only when they've been caught

I've been told that it's completely painless, but I suppose that is unless you hit your fingers when holding the fish? -?
