Has anyone here bought a 5Dsr International Version from Amazon? What was you experience like? Good, Bad? I am kind of confused what the difference actually is. Just curious before I purchase.
Thanks!

Isn't "international version" the same as "gray market" meaning no USA warranty?

International versions are typically grey market cameras. Canon however will support them, unlike Nikon. Battery charger may not work for you since it's a different type for another country. As for quality, I have purchased them before and found no issues with Canon cameras or Tamron lenses which is my only experience.

No warranty. So essentially ur buying a new camera "as is". So it then comes down to the vendor. I purchased thru the Fred Miranda marketplace for my Tamron lens, and Deals all Year for my camera. Both transactions were simple and straightforward.

I can't speak for Amazon, but I bought my international Canon 5DS off Ebay with no issues. All the international means is that you don't get the Canon US warranty. It's still a brand new camera in the original box with all of the original accessories. The only difference I noticed was mine was default set to PAL video recording which many other countries use.

I purchased it from 6ave on Ebay. The price recently went up, but it's still considerably less than the US version.

Foreword: I'm not trying to be critical... just a casual conversation

Upon researching for 7Dii recently, I noticed the term "grey market" gets thrown around a lot. From the physical look and function of the camera, there's nothing "grey" or iffy about its design because it's the same final product. During the research I made, I was looking to see if Canon had followed a different quality assurance plan for the manufacturing for Canon USA vs non-USA markets but nothing of it. It's legitimate to say that they're all the same. From that perspective, it's the wrong word to use. The proper word is "global market" which is precisely defined by Canon.

Obviously, there's a bit of a nuance when buying a Canon global product, the risk of the camera going bad w/in 1year for DSLRs.

If I make money off of photos, it's an easy decision to get US market cameras w/ warranty. In business, it's good to have excess financial assurance for long-term gain because the impact can be huge.

While I totally agree with all of the models being the same. I don't necessarily agree that if you're making money from them, to buy new US market. I have bought a few "global market" cameras, along with a ton of used ones. I find that the money saved, can go to canon CPS, and thats better than any warranty anyways. If I have something go wrong with one (never had from purchasing a used one or global market, just wear and tear). That canon will have it fixed, and back in my hands in three days time. I always try and find the cheapest price for what I need. Sometimes I can save thousands, and that means more money in my pocket!
