For those posing stuff to Instagram from your PC, what process are you using? I just tether my mobile but I was wondering if there is a better way. It's just such a pain in the a$$.

Yes, I did too! . And I found some good leads on Flickr.

But, Flickr just doesn't even come close to Instagram for this type of use. . For one thing, Flickr is rather cumbersome to use. . It takes several, sometimes even many, seconds for pages to load. . When I'm clicking on 10 or 15 different things every minute, I simply can't wait 4 or 5 seconds for each thing to load. . That makes my research take two or three times as long as it would with instant pageloads.

That's why I wrote scripts and queries- I could get a lot of information quickly, mainly, where were the animals sighted recently?

For another thing, the nation's foremost wildlife photographers aren't active on Flickr. . Flickr seems to be mostly used by hobbyists. . If I want to talk to the nations most successful waterfowl photographers, I can get right to them on Instagram and be exchanging personal messages within minutes. . Ditto for the nation's most successful Deer or Elk photographers, songbird photographers, etc. . These people aren't even on Flickr at all.

With Instagram I can get right to many of the best wildlife photographers in the world, and have them respond to DMs within a short time, and answer my detailed questions. . Often times they even want to meet up and shoot together if we're going to be in the same area at the same time. . That kind of super-efficient research just doesn't happen with Flickr.

.

I thought the best wildlife photographers posted in POTN :-P

Thats pretty slick. I've been saving everything to Google Drive on my PC, then accessing it from my phone to upload.

I lost my queries, but here's one place to get started although I wasn't so sophisticated to use the API.
https://www.flickr.com/services/developer/api/ (external link)

Searching:
https://www.flickrhelp.com …ow-to-use-Advanced-Search (external link)

I last used it when I went to Glacier Park a long time ago and I wanted to see where I could see bears. It turned out I saw them everywhere on that trip.
Edit:
I built up the query from the URL command line
This one looks up the map (So I see geotagged images) centered on a latitude and longitude, &zl=10 is some sort of distance around the point, everyone's picture, with a date range I copied from the advanced search- it is time from the start to the end of January, so I only see recent images.

https://www.flickr.com …max_taken_date=1643695199 (external link)

I still don't remember how I filtered for bears, but I wanted to show how it can be done.

I didnt plan to use instagram before

However one of the model that I met at a photoshooting group ask me to tag her on Insta, that was my initial stage of learning how to use it lolz

I didnt not really like it at the 1st time. You cant re-edit your photo, the uploaded photo will be re-framed in square size (that means part of top & bottom of your photo will be cut off if they are rectangle)

But after using for a while, i realize its less crashing than FB. So its ok to use it for publishing some basic photos/video or contacting with models

I'm curious, doesn't the TOS indicate that IG totally owns any photos you post? That is the case on Facebook.

There is Pixelfed (external link). Aesthetically it is similar to Instagram but behind the scenes it is decentralized, so anyone can launch and run a server/instance and users on one server can talk to users on others severs. Kind of like email. So users are not all beholden to FB/Meta, the owners of Instagram. It reminds of when Instagram was more photography focused instead of what it is now (video/reels and shopping). I joined recently, just need to remember to add it to my flow when posting images.

I like what they have to say about themselves:

"Your" and "you're" are different words with completely different meanings - please use the correct one.
"They're", "their", and "there" are different words with completely different meanings - please use the correct one.
"Fare" and "fair" are different words with completely different meanings - please use the correct one. The proper expression is "moot point", NOT "mute point".

I registered an Instagram account three years ago to post photos of my city. I like urban motifs, but I also like picturesque landscapes. I took pictures on my phone, and we all know that the standard Samsung camera doesn't convey the color palette which we see in real life. I can't post a photo without passing it through the Instagram filter. So this kind of hiding of photos seems completely stupid. I like how photosheep.me (external link) processes photos, and I wanted to practice processing shots just like them. It'd refresh my style, but what's the point if no one sees it?
