In your Network settings you should see YOUR Network, Click on it, add password and all, should be good.. After that go into Safari Preferences and make your choices

On my MacBook Air I occasionally need to stop and start my WiFi to get internet access. It looks like it is connected properly by the WiFi icon, all bars are black, but the internet just stops working. A quick off and on of WiFi fixes it.
