My solution was to buy this...

https://www.dell.com …90/spd/xps-15-7590-laptop (external link)

i bit more pricey than i could swing... ive got a 13" xps something with like 512gb SSD. that was really my biggest "must have" was the SSD of sufficient capacity although this is not as much as i would have liked. my current "net" laptop is still a 7 machine, with a lot of stuff that im in the process of sorting through has a regular platter HD but its got something else size wise. it has a partition my cousin put in with 301gb for OS and other programs, then 280gb for storage of files and such. thats roughly 581gb so it seems like an odd size (determined by going to "computer" under the control panel tab)..

my biggest complaint on all of the skinny convertible laptops is the lack of a number keypad. im not a banker but im pretty good at typing numbers on those. WAY BETTER than with the numbers row...

-im just trying. sometimes i succeed

Unless you're running it as a server OS, exposed to the Internet, the danger isn't that great unless you have a room temperature IQ. The primary route of infection would be either email or web browsing. Chrome and Firefox are still being updated on Win7. uBlock Origin is a far more effective security device than people expect. You shouldn't be running IE anyway. Don't use Outlook 2007 and don't open attachments or click random links. Sure, you could get infected by a worm on your own LAN, but if you have a worm on your LAN, you're already owned.

The individuals on this forum are somewhat unique in that many have a very specific purpose for their computers. But we have to remember that a large percentage of users overall solely have PC’s for email and web browsing. Further, a high percentage of those people would not understand much of what you have just stated.

Along the lines of the original post, the major AV vendors are supporting for a couple mre years. See https://www.zdnet.com …pport-windows-7-post-eol/ (external link).

In addition, an issue (caused by Microsoft) has been found in Windows 7 and Microsoft has agreed to supply a fix, It hasn’t yet been released but probably worth checking for an update in a week. See https://www.techspot.com …ix-after-introducing.html (external link)

Should you get a black screen with the last Windows 7 update, Microsoft released a fix as of 6 February. See http://www.catalog.update.microsoft.com/Search.aspx?q=KB4539601 (external link)

I will use Win 7 for most of my picture work as I have most of the software for 7. They no longer are online for anything. For all my online work I use Linux Mint. It is flawless, comes with a lot of free great programs and thousands of others available. I will not put up with any Windows anymore.
With Linux I use Gimp 2.10.18 the latest version, what a great program.
Did I mention that Linux Mint is free and most all the programs too. I have several computers, older ones I've installed various Linux distros and having a ball trying out the different ones.
The wife was against Linux till she tried it and she said "Would you setup me one with her bookmarks"? She never looked back.
