Hi! I recently got back into photography, and since I remembered very little of the manual settings I hit the «Q» button that explains what everything is. Now, somehow I managed to turn AEB on, and probably mess with some other settings. I manage to get only one exposure, but as I can only control the exposure by turning the shutter speed up or down I suddenly can’t get a decent exposure and shutter speed simultaneously.

To get my exposure at 0, my shutter speed now has to be 0"8, but just earlier today I had my exposure at +1 while the shutter speed was at 800. Can somebody please help me fix this? I can’t take decent photos anymore...

Sounds like you need to reset factory defaults and start fresh. I believe setup menu 3 on the Rebel.

I have cleared all settings, but that doesn’t help. Is there an other way to reset to factory settings?

Hi! Thank you, but I’ve tried this. I scroll so there’s only one line under the exposure, but I can’t control it with the arrow buttons. The biggest issue is that the exposure stays at -3 until the shutter speed is super low.

I see the icon of the arrow buttoms and the +/- icon aren’t highlighted, maybe this is part of the issue?

Are you in M mode?
Then you can't change the exposure compensation, as there by definition isn't any in M mode. It's already at 0 anyway.
You can still reset AEB, using the dial indicated on the screen.

By the way, the camera is an 1100D.

But it used to change as I changed the shutter speed, but now it stays at -3 until the shutter speed is really low, which is the issue. I can’t use M mode to take pictures anymore, as they either turn out black or blurry.

What happens when you increase the ISO or use a larger aperture?

Now it sounds like you are describing the light meter, which is displayed when you use the M mode. In most cameras, it's the same scale as is used for exposure compensation. The 1DX Mark II is a bit different, as it has more than one scale in the viewfinder. But that's not applicable here.

If you need 0.8 seconds to get correct exposure, it's either very dark, or it's pretty dark and you've selected a small aperture and a low ISO.

Changing the aperture and IOS helped, thank you!
