Question, how long should a firmware update take? I downloaded the most recent firmware to an SD card to update my 7D MkII. When it got to the Firmware update Program page after loading it, it has been on "loading" for almost 35 minutes.

Should it take that long?

If not, what next? Shut the camera off and start over?

Don't want to mess anything up.

Thanks in advance

No more than a couple of minutes normally, if you turn off midway you do stand a chance of locking up your camera and that means a return to Canon.

Well, that is a bummer.

It never gets past the loading stage and the various YouTube videos that I have seen have a step beyond that to actually download the firmware. Maybe it is just trying to read the firmware and I did not download it to the SD card correctly?

It has been several years but I do remember having to update the firmware on several 7D's we had at work. There was one that took substantially longer, I'd say in the 15-20 minute range. I do not know what the cause of it was. Slow SD card, etc... It eventually finished.

Hopefully yours has resolved itself.

I called Canon Support. They were very helpful.

Had to take the battery out and then also remove the CF card, so that only the SD card with the firmware was in the camera. That must have been the issue as then things proceeded as they were supposed to after that. I have to say, Canon Support was very helpful and friendly.

I did mine a few days ago, it did take some time but booted up with no issues at all. I did it on full battery with a Genuine Sandisk Extreme 32mb memory card.
