I have a question on the new lexar cards which are available, does micron still make the memory for the cards or is it made by the third party. The lexar brand has always been reliable but hard to find.

But more importantly, know your source. There was a recent thread involving a Lexar CF card (see https://photography-on-the.net …read.php?t=1512108&page=1) in which the buyer checked the product read/write speed and came up well short of specs. Ultimately the card was fake. Best to buy from Best Buy or if you prefer an online source, B&H or Adorama. Never buy off eBay and use caution if buying off Amazon.

Feb 02, 2020 10:18 | #3 I’m not sure what body you will be putting the lexar in, but you might want to make sure you have a good return policy if you get it. I bought both the 1666x and the 2000x uhs-ii models for my A7r4 and the the 1666x was way too slow to clear the buffer and the 2000x was a little better but still slow and also had a read error once (within week 1). I found out that the speeds on the PC were not indicative of the speeds in camera (much slower). I think lexar has cheapened their brand a lot. There’s a reason why they are significantly cheaper than other brands(sandisk/Sony/Toshiba/etc) for v90 uhs-ii cards Body: Sony a7R IV

Currently I only use their CF Professional 1066x models. How can you tell if the card is from the new owner? They all look alike to me. 1DX MK II, 5D MKIV x2, 24L II, 35L II, 50L, 85LIS, 100LIS Macro, 135L, 16-35LIS, 24-105LIS II, 70-200LIS, 100-400LIS II

Feb 06, 2020 13:57 | #7 There isn't much info I've come across regarding the fabrication of their memory products after Micron sold off that division. Lexar now is not the same but how good they are is still ongoing. It will be difficult to tell a Micron from a Longsys version unless they provide info on the production codes on the memory card. So long as you buy from a reputable source as John mentions you have warranty to handle arising issues.

See https://www.lexar.com/ If they changed ownership a few years ago and we haven't heard any horror stories (at least I haven't) my guess is they are still a reputable company. The last time I bought Lexar CF cards was last year from B&H so I don't know if they are the new cards or leftover stock from the prior ownership. Bottom line is the cards work fine. 1DX MK II, 5D MKIV x2, 24L II, 35L II, 50L, 85LIS, 100LIS Macro, 135L, 16-35LIS, 24-105LIS II, 70-200LIS, 100-400LIS II

The only negative comments I have seen had to do with some legal ramifications due to the change in company ownership. Even at that, the problem was caused by government agencies, not the "new" Lexar. An article offering some insight ran in December 2018 and can be found at https://petapixel.com …d-up-by-us-govt-approval/
