i've always really liked W7, and have seen no need to upgrade, so here i am, no more service from Microsoft. i suppose there are a few of you in the same boat and am curious what are you going to do? it seems to me Windows 10 has been out for quite a while, is there something new around the corner?

Why not just go to Win 10? I know Microsoft and their software can be annoying and can screw up at times, but all in all, Win 10 has been satisfactory for me.

MS forced me to upgrade (for free) back in the Win 7 days. Very aggravating. But it turned out to be OK. I disabled all the privacy options and eschewed frills like Cortina (never use it), wanting to use Win10 only as scaffolding for my other programs. That is how I use the OS and it works for me.

I may have misunderstood your question, but:
Windows 10 won't be getting a new name for the foreseeable future (well, it's Microsoft, so you never know for sure).
Windows 10 has been around since 2015, and gets two so-called "feature updates" a year, and monthly security updates (more if big bugs are found).
New features that used to be introduced in new version names/numbers are now introduced in the feature updates.
You can find the version history here. (external link)

So if you want to stick with Windows you can step in any time.

I just bought a new Dell with Windows 10 to replace my workhorse Dell with Windows 7, strictly because of the end of support issue. I delayed this for as long as I could for only one reason. I have a high end 3d CAD package on the W-7 system that I wasn't sure would run on W-10. This CAD package is also at the end of it's support life and I won't be able to move the license to the W-10 system.

So, I did the only thing I could. Retire the W-7 system but keep it alive (and off the internet) and only use it when I do home design work. Move the files to the W10 system for sending out if need be.

I set my Windows 7 workstation up with a dual boot for Windows 10. That way I had no down time, while I got 10 up to snuff, apps and hardware set up etc. If I am ever missing anything, re-boot back to Windows 7 install. I'm pretty settled now. I'll go back into 7 soon and disable internet access all together on that OS.

I really miss Win2K...

I liked W7, too.

Just the way it is, things don't always change for the better.

I don't need support from Microsoft, so I can run win 7 for a while yet. There won't be a Windows 11, MS has already started win 10 is it, it is containerized and upgradeable now without any kind of OS overhaul as in old versions.

Windows 10 and Windows 7 are equally good, but I would prefer to use Windows 10, and with the development of time, Windows 10 will occupy the entire market of Microsoft.Upgrading to Windows 10 from Windows 7 is a free, and do a clean Windows 10 reinstallation is not difficult.

I scrapped my last Win 7 laptop a few days ago. Kept the HD, memory, and DVD drive. All else routed to e-waste.

I have 4 Win 10 laptops - two recently bought - and I don't miss Win 7 at all.

Two weeks ago, I found myself in a situation where, after many many tries to do lesser fixes, I had to do a total reload of Windows 10 v190xx, because Microsoft tech support tried and discovered that Windows 10 v20xx was NOT COMPATIBLE with my 15 month old PC!
How does Microsoft make a newer version of Windows 10 which is NOT COMPATIBLE with a recent PC (from HP with Intel processor, not an insignificant brand) ?!

Heya,

I'm still running several copies of Win7 on several machines. I recently did updates to take an old machine forward with Service Pack 1 and all the other updates (probably over 3Gigs of updates hah). But it still did it and works fine. All my software runs flawless still on Win7, as all of it was written prior to Win10 anyways. And I run Steam on them all and everything works flawless.

I won't change from Win7 until the software I use no longer works properly or hardware no longer works properly. Nothing wrong with Win10, I just have no reason to buy multiple copies of it at this time when everything is working. But when it is time, I'll do that, I'll just get several Win10 keys and fresh install each machine one at a time. But hopefully I have more time before doing that out of necessity. At least Win10 is now considered "mature" and most of the issues are updated.

Very best,

sounds nasty - what model of PC is it? we've bought a couple of HP laptops in the last year & I would not like to have to pfaff about with rebuilding them this early in their life!

I also switched from Windows 7 to Windows 10, because Windows 7 has been terminated support,

It can no longer do more work for us, more reminder, Winodws 7 is easy to lose the protection of Microsoft Will be invaded by malware.
To go to Windows 10,you'd install it on your pc,because the Windows 10 installation disk is a quarterly safe medium,i think it will be more safe than upgrading Windows.

I had Win 7 pro and pulled the hard drive, upgraded to a 4 TB hard drive.
No security updates? Pull the plug and stop the attackers.
In theory Win 7 Pro all by itself may not be totally obsolete if its never connected to the internet.
