Hi all, I love my 90D, I use the Canon 24mm Pancake a lot, I tried the L Version but the example I received was obviously bad as the images were pure crap.. I feel I would like a higher quality w/angle lens (pancake sized) can anyone suggest an alternative A/F... Thanks in advance.. L

“L” version of what? Were you at least happy with the field of view of the 24mm on the cropped body? That info gives us some idea of what to suggest.

I've owned the 24mm ef-s twice and I found it to be pretty meh. canon makes two pancake lenses. but i'm sure you know that.

Again, “L” version of what lens? To my knowledge Canon does not make a pancake “L” lens. If the 24mm f/1.4 did you attempt the microadjustent? See https://www.canonwatch.com …nt-on-your-lens-tutorial/ (external link).

Also, if you can post what you feel is a poor image with the EXIF intact. It is entirely possible you are doing something causing the issue.

Were you referring to the 24mm 1.4 LII version? I've had that lens for several years and am very pleased with the results.

Here are Canon lenses considered to be 'pancake'

One of them is M-mount, which will not mount properly to work on a 90D

You could do the 40mm f2.8 but not the same focal length as your 24mm. The 50mm STM is pretty small but not quite pancake

Hi, visited Castle Air Museum to-day.. Maybe it's me, I just think these images should have little more bite! Just little tweaking from original..(color, sharpness, black point, light crop top & bottom)

Assuming bite is a combination of contrast, saturation, and sharpening you probably need to consider a couple things. Not all light is created equal, diffused morning light will have less contrast than midday light,. You can also use the picture style settings of your camera to add customize the cameras output.

Exactly what I thought.......

The light is perfect even f/11 would be ideal, An image with a large depth of field (and high aperture) will have a sharp focus on all objects from the foreground to the background.

"Bite" is subjective. In my opinion, the images seem a bit underexposed. The airplanes are your subject, but there is some significant shadow. I'm also sure there's quite a bit of leeway you have for post processing (IE raising shadows and exploring masking as well).
