It was a joke, playing on the fact that we always get into the same kind of discussions where there is no universal right answer, it is subjective.

Crop vs FF
AF vs MF
Manual mode vs Automated mode
Mirrorless vs DSLR
Need DR vs Not Important
...
BBF vs Shutter Focus

With my age bracket, I'm still mainly invested in stock mutual funds vs bond funds....ergo it's obvious stock funds are always best :-)

Crop is 'different from' FF...not 'better'.

  • At times FF is 'better', like when you want a 40" x 60" print...it is magnified by 1.6X lower amount if the same area is framed in both Crop and FF.
  • At times Crop is 'better', like if you are limited to 300mm lens and try to shoot a bird on 20MPixel crop vs. 24Mpixel FF
  • At times FF is 'better', even if you are limited to 300mm lens and try to shoot a bird on 20MPixel crop vs. 50Mpixel FF
  • At times Crop is 'better', like shooting fast action sports with 10 fps 7DII vs. 6fps 5DIII
  • At times FF is 'better', like shooting in very low light situations with 7DII vs. 5DIV

OMG Dude, your experienced enough that you should know not to take the troll bait, especially when it's being presented tongue and cheek! :-P:-P:-P:-P

I have been having fun shooting at my kid's Wrestling matches. I have been using BBF for a few years since getting the 1Dx and like it. Admittedly there is a re-learning curve and sure, passing camera to others is an issue. I've gotten quick at moving the camera settings to P(Full auto) from C1 or C2 to do that pass off.

I have always use the center focus points and just reposition for composition, but recently went ahead and turned on all focus points. I am a bit miffed to see the thing focus on the background between the subjects on occasion but with Servo and BBF I have had excellent results. The camera keeps focus on my subjects and my index finger hits the shutter release when appropriate. (I use the custom function button next to base of lens to shift from Servo to Single Shot when appropriate)

Also enjoying my 70-200 F2.8 L. :) Home matches are in some stupid "dramatic" lighting with a single spot light overhead in a gym, so low light......drat.....

BBF isn't a hindrance in passing camera to someone, it is a defense against point-shoot error.

When I pass my camera to someone, I stand at a specific location chosen by me to capture the subject with the right background. I set the FL, set focus with BBF, put the camera in M so that I have the f/stop and shutter speed and ISO combination that I feel will make for the best shot. THEN I hand the camera over and say,
"The focus and zoom and everything are all set, don't worry about trying to set anything. Just press the shutter release!"
That sets their mind at ease, rather than worrying about using a 'complicated camera' and getting it wrong...instead they can deal with capture of good expressions on the faces of the subjects!
