Does anyone have any recommendations regarding a sling strap for a DSLR? (The type where the camera is at your waist)

I use a Canon 7D MKII most of the time and find the standard strap style just is too inconvenient. I have done some reading and looking on B&H; however, am interested in any personal experience or recommendations.

I have two that I use for different purposes: 1) Peak Design Slide and 2) BlackRapid Curve Breathe. Both are mod'ed with the ProMediaGear's SS2p1 Plug connector for instantaneous connect/disconnect from the PMG's "L" bracket plug port.

For a walk around shoot, I like to use the Peak Design Slide to carry my camera closer to my body under my armpit (or at waist level when appropriate). For outdoor wildlife/birding with the camera on my monopod, I use the BlackRapid Curve Breathe not only as a strap but also to serve as a safety tether.

The thing that I don't like about carrying my camera at waist level is the camera dangling. For that reason, I like that I can quickly adjust the Peak Design Slide to be able to carry the camera under my armpit.

Also, when I'm working alone in my home studio where I need to have my hands free to be able to move the lights and other things around, I use the Think Tank Pro Belt with the SpiderPro Holster along with either strap as a safety tether.

I just use the strap extensions on my Optech neck strap and "sling it like a purse",

Or I use the dual harness for a similar effect x 2.

I use a Luma Labs cinch, but the don’t make it anymore. I also have their original Luma Loop. I like both, but they are not always available.

I use the latest Luma Loop which works very well. It has a sling swivel from ALG that is forged from 7075 T6 aluminum that can withstand pull forces of up to 800lbs. RRS camera plates have standard QD sockets and there are plenty of swivel manufacturers like Magpul that will work too but the quality isn't the same as the ALG product.

Do you have the link to the ALG product or at least how much it cost? Also wonder if the ALG plug can work with the PMG plates with the port? I'm very happy with the PMG plug but it's rather expensive.

The ALG FSS (external link) costs $32.00. It's not cheap.

My understanding is that Promediagear have their own quick detach socket and plug and the ALG plug is not compatible with it. RRS started putting QD sockets on their plates quite a while ago and I believe that the design of their plug/socket is a military standard with quite a few manufacturers like Magpul making them.

Thanks. The PMG version is $39.95, so not much of a difference. I'll take a look at the RRS version.

I use the Optech sling and it works quite well. One uniloop on the left lug of the camera and the other on the bottom right of the L-bracket allows the lens to point own. Or one on the bottom right of the L-bracket and the other on the lens foot allows the lens to be horizontal.

This also works with the Optech dual harness.

I have an Op-Tech. With various parts I can switch from a sling to conventional neck strap or a wrist strap. I use all 3 at various times and it's been real handy to be able to make the switch quickly.

I've used the R strap for several years and still like it a lot...
