I shall make this really really easy for you to understand.

The following figures were correct as of 15:53 on 7th February 2020.

88% = 44 votes ...............Agree or Disagree
44 members voted for BBF...............Agree or Disagree
POTN has 398360 members...............Agree or Disagree

Conclusion: 44 members out of 398360 members voted for BBF.....Agree or Disagree

And that is exactly what I said in post 16 of this thread.

Well, actually, 44 members out of a total membership of 398,360 have said that they use BBF.

Everyone knows when we talk about a poll thread, we only talk about those that have participated, and not some sort of larger global number.

Just like you compare POTN membership as some sort of number, but that doesn't even represent the total forum membership across all forums. Then we could bring in the entire human population that might have Canon gear in their closet too.

The only sensible discussions around numbers would be in the realm of this poll.

The issue is that by and large, the only ones who would respond to this poll are possibly those who have tried BBF and either loved it or hated it.

This is probably a small minority of the POTN membership.

To ALL the points above, I fully agree. You have been having issue with what I posted, not I with disputing what you posted.

I merely looked at a different number as significant so far.... only 48 voters had rendered an opinion, 88% of those votes so far had indicated preference for BBF.
But in spite of those numbers, it was NOT REPRESENTATIVE of the population...we needed more votes

I have no idea why you keep bringing up the total number of members that POTN has. . Wilt never referred to the total forum membership when he made that post that you keep picking apart and criticizing. . The only one involved in this thread that cares AT ALL about the total membership is you.

I set up a Facebook account some years ago. I never have posted to Facebook. I rarely read Facebook. I do not matter to the advertisers who understand there are ACTIVE users, and I am not among that number.

LinkedIn has 500,000,000 members, but many of them are dead members. I had tried to identify about a half dozn of them to LinkedIn, after it tried to get me to Connect with them. They asked for a Death Certificate, but not being an immediate family member I cannot get one. And the survivng members of their families could care less about notifying LinkedIn. These people were dead 5 years ago, they are still dead today, but LinkedIn still tries to get me to Connect with them. In the statistics, the dead members are no longer relevant, but Linked in still cites the statistic.

In each case, what truly matters is those who PARTICIPATE.

The Linkedin story really gets me. I had a friend about 8 years ago that got into a horrible accident. Was in ICU for over a month. His family decided to discontinue heroic measures. He passed a few days later.

1 week after his funeral I started getting messages from Linkedin that he wanted to connect with me...

Maybe LinkedIn knows something about communication with the dead in the afterlife, that you and I fail to understand. Have you tried to Connect?! :p

Killed my account and blocked incoming mail from Linkedin. It was useless anyway. Lol

When I have time, I am going to try to learn to use BBF and see if I like it better than shutter based focus.

I think that's a great idea. . Just be sure to give it plenty of time to get fully used to it.

Too many people "give it a try", say they don't like it, or "never got on with it", and go back to shutter button. . Then later you find out that they only tried it for a few weeks, never giving it a fair shot at all.

In order for you to know if something works for you or not, you have to try things long enough so that they can can become completely ingrained in your muscle memory. . This could take several months of daily use. . Once you do it so much that your thumb just automatically does the right thing, without your brain even thinking about it, then you have finally gotten to the point where you can say that you gave it a fair try. . Only then can you fairly assess whether or not it is right for you.

Personally, I took to it right away. . I mean, it was so intuitive for me that the day I started using BBF, I was completely used to it immediately. . But some people are very different, and it could take months to get to that point.

I have started using BBF for everything except product shots. Only problem I have is remembering to hold it down on BIF's when AI Servo is used :-D

Retired, but still learning ...

If no one minds. I'll go a little off topic and throw in the fact that I learned using the AF/AE via the trigger, but I've recently switched to BBF. I'm slowly becoming more and more comfortable with it. I do at times, hit the EL button by mistake.

After coming from a Pentax Spotmatic back in the 70's, I started in the '90's with a 400D and on this forum learned about the BBF and now use it on the 5D and 7D as well.
I find it handy in landscape shooting to focus on a zone and re-frame.
Others might not find it as comfortable but I got used to it and its now 2nd nature for me.
