I think it is commonly believed that the site software does have an effect on image quality although that may only be for pictures that the "site software" resizes. As an aside, I do know the software I use to resize pictures before posting does affect image quality. >>> Pictures? What pictures? <<<<

Is there a correlation between subject distances and camera shake? In other words, do you/I need a higher shutter speed to negate camera movement when subjects are a long way off? I don't know what "theory" says. In my own experience (66 years old with a bit of shaky hands), camera shake effect is the same whether near or far. Rob mentioned earlier that atmosphere can have an adverse effect. I've seen that many, many times. Here's an example taken with a 1DX2 + 100-400 II (the blurriness is all due to atmosphere). The photo distance is similar to your 400 yards away. Image editing ok; C&C always welcome.

With a 100-400 mk2 attached all is well until I try to focus on subjects close to infinity (looking at the lens markings) The camera says it's focused and I'm sure it is but, the images look smudged and I can't find anything that is critically sharp. The shutter speed is high enough and it does not look like a front/back focus issue. I'll post some examples when time permits but for now, if anyone can cobble together a 100-400 with 1dx3 and fire off a couple of shots close to infinity that would be great. In terms of distance I would estimate in excess of 400 yards. I replaced a 300 2.8 II with the 100-400 II five years ago. I'm totally happy with the 100-400 II (with or without the 1.4x III). It's been great on my 1DX2. I have a 1DX3 on order. It shipped today and will be here Wednesday. I'll be posting results here. I'm interested in how the 100-400 II/1.4x combo works on the 1DX3 as compared to the 1DX2, in terms of AF performance. When you see my camera gear you'll think I'm a pro.

The further away any given subject is, the larger the streak of blur from camera motion will be, relative to the subject size. The size of the streak relative to the sensor size has nothing to do with distance, and is based on sensor size and focal length.

Jun 10, 2020 16:01 | #1169 Well, I started getting the Error 70 again using the Sony Card. I'm working with the local camera shop where I purchased camera and card. They've gotten Canon and Sony involved. Hopefully we can get a resolution. Is anyone else here having this issue besides Kickflipkid687?
