I have been waiting for a mirrorless replacement/upgrade to the 5D Mark IV, and it sounds like it's right around the corner.

However, over the years my photography style has changed and I find myself doing far more outdoor/adventure photography - meaning bringing my camera along on long hikes and multi-day backpacking trips.

The RF lenses look absolutely amazing, but I worry that... they don't have any lenses that fit so well anymore.

Right now I am mainly using some combination of 16-35 F4L IS, 24-70 F2.8, 70-200 F4L IS.

It looks like Canon doesn't currently have RF lenses of these, only the superb new ones, that are both heavier and bigger. Switching to EOS R and the related RF lenses would make my overall gear bigger AND heavier. Naturally, I'm sure some of these more basic/core lenses will come along... eventually.

What do you guys think?

I think I would use the adapter and the glass that you currently have. we are not going to know what canon is going to do with primes for another year. Right now most of the Top R glass looks like L lens replacements

I have the EOS R and am also waiting for the smaller lighter cheaper F4 version of that 16-35 lens, they do seem kind of slow about getting those things out. As Um said, the adapter will work fine with your lenses, but probably not a great savings in weight, the R is a pretty sturdily built thing, so heavy-ish for its size. They have a RF 24-240 lens out there, haven't read a lot about the quality of it, but it would save weight by consolidating two of your lenses into one. I have been quite impressed with the sharpness of the kit lens - the RF 24-105.
