Was looking at a few camera store websites, and noticed that many are not showing the Canon 7D mkii any more. Has this line been discontinued?

Still available.
Only thing I see is that it comes with the WiFi adapter card now. I guess one could use the camera without that and still have two memory cards??

Just checked Canon web site. 7DII is only in stock NEW w/18-135 STM or 18-135 USM. No current stock of body only, either new or refurbished. Curious.

Does that make the 90D the 7D3?

Not if you remember Canon positioning...the nnD is not 'prosumer', the 7DII is considered 'prosumer'

The glaring difference at this point being 1 SD vs 1 SD + 1 CF. If I were buying today, I'd get the 90D. Newer. Not a hill of beans different in most other specs.

From what I have read the 90D is not a suitable replacement for my 7D2 but it would be a fantastic replacement for my T3i. The 7D2 is Priced too high for a six year old body IMO but I'd buy a new one for $1000 cad if I had the chance.

I'm hoping the 2020 Olympics will help Canon get the lead out.

Much as I might like one, I would be very surprised to see a 7DIII at this stage.

The ILC market is shrinking and Canon, like Nikon and others, is moving its focus from DSLRs to MILCs. The word is that they will release two, if not three, EOS R bodies this year including at least one high-end unit, and speculation from Canon Rumors is that a 3rd body will be the equivalent to the 7DIII. If that is true then that would suggest the 7D series is at an end.

The EOS 90D surpasses the 7DII in every respect except tracking: it is weather sealed, and it also boasts the joystick that existed in the 7D series. Apparently there is a pending EOS 850D supposed to be coming out and its specs are not far off those for the 80D: so essentially the XXXD and ##D models have all moved up a level in spec.

Canon have already made a big move for the Olympics with the 1DX MkIII.

The 90D seems to be a good camera, I have not shot with one.

Not sure it is a replacement for the 7DII? Not quite the same specs. I guess I would have to try them out side by side and see.

The 90D has 'caught up' in a number of areas to the 7DII, like 1/250 X-sync, AF to -3EV, max shutter speed) and it even got back the joystick access taken away from the 60D - 80D. And then it benefits from 'performance' advantage gained by being 5 years newer.
It reminds me of what car makers do...in the final model year(s) it stuffs more features/performance to keep it interesting in the marketplace.

Let me first say that I hope that I and Canon Rumors are both wrong - I have both the 7D and 7DII, but the implications are that the 7DIII will come as a MILC whatever that name will be. Let's face it, no manufacturer can continue to design and produce cameras for a relatively small market. Canon have already said they are working on a lot of glass for the RF mount and it makes sense to move a market like the 7D series to their new platform.

I have the 90D and it's a fine camera, at 34MP it carries a lot of punch. On the subject of connectivity... Canon do some strange things in that area. For example: the EOS M6 MkII would make an awesome videographer's camera, but they didn't put the necessary MIC AND earphone sockets in there - that went to the 90D, which is bigger and bulkier than a videographer would prefer of the two.

At this point I am not sure if I would sell my 7D and 7DII and move to a mirrorless 7DIII. I guess it would depend on cost and if it really added anything to the party. I would love to try a 1Dx II or III but way out of my price ranges
