Forum users are a unique crowd though. I'd be curios to see actual sales numbers by model line. I'd bet the Rebel+2 lens kits at Costco far outsells the 5D.

Intuition tells me the same thing! The Canon AE-1 far outsold the Canon F-1, too, among the general public (non-pro shooter group).

Agree on the Rebel. For lack of a better way to say it, the Rebel is the common man's camera like Chevrolet is to Cadillac in General Motors and that represents a ton of sales. Enthusiasts who frequent these forums are generally more involved and use higher equipment. That's my take on it. :)

At this point it is 46 voters with 91 votes. Awesome. I hope more people participate.

...there are people (like me) still shooting the 60D and possibly the 50D and the 40D if not older.

Such as me, also.

The only applicable choice for me in this poll is the 5D Series, of which I recently acquired a Mark IV.

However, I still own and use a 50D, primarily because it's still a very capable camera.

As the title asks us which bodies we are currently using, and includes a qualifier of the prosumer bodies,
I would think all such XXD series should be lumped under a single choice, rather than limiting choices
to only the more recent models.

I agree with you.

It is a bit odd that all 5D bodies are lumped into one choice, as are all 1D series bodies and the two different 7D series bodies, and all of the many Rebel models ..... but that the XXD models are listed as separate poll choices, and only the few most recent ones are present.

I mean, if the 5D Classic, 5D Mark 2, 5D Mark 3, and 5D Mark 4 are all lumped into one choice, then why are the 70D, 80D, and 90D listed as separate choices?

Does this method of grouping make sense to anyone? . If so, I would like for someone to explain how it makes sense.

The AE-1 also retailed for $700 in 1970s dollars....so not quite as "consumer" as a Rebel kit (though it was poised at a good time to sell well since fully automatic P&S hadn't come out yet). When folks see that I'm into photography at work, I've noticed quite a few have mentioned they have a Canon Rebel kit. One guy in particular has asked for photography tips, and is trying to use his Rebel more (even though he told me that he had gotten better photos from his iPhone). Think it's neat that he's still interested in trying to improve his photography, though, and even he is not a forum member.

Agree that all XXD cameras should be one series. While the 50D and below were more prosumer, XXD is still a complete series. Right now we have to add up the 70D, 80D, and 90D models for part of the series and exclude the older models.

This poll is seriously flawed.

If you use a 1DXmk2, a 5Dmk4 and a 7Dmk2, you can vote three times, but if you use a 1DSmk3, a 1Dmk4 and 1DXmk2 you can only vote once.

Chuck,
Thanks for taking the time to put this together. It's easy to sit on the sidelines and take potshots at someone's efforts but to do something positive takes some thought and effort. I voted. Thanks again.

The 1D-anyoneofthem has always been an amazing camera of it's time and I feel like nearly no one uses these top-of-the-line bodies to their full potential. And that's mostly because the camera can do more than what you need for your particular type of photography. Its an amazing tool.

Again you are missing the point: if someone who uses three bodies across three different series, such as, 5D, 6D and 7D, can vote three times, then surely someone who uses three different bodies within the same series, such as, 1DS mk3, 1D mk4, and 1DX mk2, should also be allowed to vote three times. Do you not agree; if not why not?

The Canon AE-1 had an MSRP of $269 in 1976, and in those times the pricing was definitely aimed at a consumer market/entry photographer. The median income in US in 1979 was $16530, so the AE-1 was 1.62% of the median income.

The median US income in 2018 is $63179, the T6 can be had for $400, or 0.6% of the US median income. In 2009 when the median income in the US was $50221, the Canon T1i was $900 with lens, or 1.7%. The prices of cameras have indeed fallen, but only in relatively recent times.
