I just downloaded the latest Firefox update.
When I browsed to POTN, a window popped up stating that it had stopped tracking on POTN for:
Facebook tracking and Facebook tracking cookies.

Is our data being sold to Facebook?

Yeah, the Facebook pixel has been present for a while. I block it both on my Mac and iPhone, but I too have been wondering why it's here.

We use a standard Facebook embedded share/like button. You can see their embed code when you view page source. What they embed there and how browsers react to that is out of our control.

More about that feature in Firefox:

https://support.mozilla.org …as=u&utm_source=inproduct (external link)

I think this is a good feature to have, but it should be performed without warnings that "accuse" a site for tracking - because the actual tracking is done by Facebook or any service with similar embedded code.

Thank you for your explanation, Pekka.

There is no doubt the way Mozilla presented it was accusatory.

Unfortunately, drama is what it is all about nowadays. And Firefox has lost so much browser market share, drama is all they have left to try and promote their product.

Thanks again.

I gladly use Firefox's antitracking feature that Pekka mentioned. However, the terms of use in many sites state that they ignore such settings. Pfft. If I don't want tracking cookies, the choice should be up to me. I sometimes go through my cookies and delete those I don't recognize and want.

Our cookies are explained in https://photography-on-the.net/forum/privacypolicy.php

The only cookie your really need to have is the "login cookie".
All other cookies (AMASS_*) are there for making forum browsing, usage and features easier. They do not track anything.

Anyways I am considering disabling Facebook buttons from the site (it is an internal on/off switch), as less and less people use it after all the bad rap Facebook has had (for a good reason).

Other option would be to create a setting in FYEO for choosing if Facebook embed code shows or not (needs to be coded).

As much as I dislike Zuckerberg, and as much as I hate Facebook (for good reason),
(and as much as I dislike asking you to code),
IMHO the correct thing to do would be to leave it to the individual user. The default would be off/no.
