My VTII ex highway patrol. When I first had it other drivers often pulled back into left lane and I got waved through a radar trap once...
It was a rare Commodore, last of the Aussie V8s, they moved to LS-1 Chev the following month and a 5 speed.

What year was the Commodore? A friend of mine, Simon, moved down under in '89 and I'm sure he had a new one of those, could be wrong of course, age, memory and all that! But remember him talking Holden, V8, Petrol head and as I say I think, Commodore.

When we visited him, in May 1990 he took us to see Kangaroos somewhere near Melbourne, they came up to the car looking for food, we didn't have any and one disgruntled Roo rocked back on its tail and kicked the door in - wasn't funny at the time, but mildly amusing now  - sorry Simon!

Cheers

I am very sad to see Holden go. This was my 05 GTO (Monaro). It was my favorite car I've ever owned. Wish I still had it.

You can make a car go faster, by painting it yellow with stripes:

Yup, that's just science !

Very nice.:-)
One of the nicest Holden's ever made IMO.
I was disappointed then when they stopped making that.
Can't see any logic in current decree :-(

1999. The VN were fun, in a bad way! They were an enlarged version of the original 1978 Commodore which itself was an enlarged version of a Brittish car with a quite small engine. With a 5 Litre V8 and a body that overhung the wheel track similar to a Commer van, handling could be interesting

Both Ford and Holden cars in Australia did this often. Take a car from the UK that came with 1.3, 1.6 or 2 Litre 4 cylinder engines, stretch the body and squeeze in a much, much bigger engine of 6 or 8 cylinders.

eg in Aus, Ford Cortina had 2 Litre and 3.3 or 4.1 Litre 6, LH Torana could have 1.9 Litre 4, 2.8 to 3.3 Litre or 4.2 and 5Litre V8s.

Yellow peril I posted earlier came out of the factory with a 1.9L Opel engine that refused to expire even with extreme treatment. 19 sec 1/4 mile with valvebounce was just enough to beat a 2.0L Capri :-)
I decided it didn't have enough "go" so put in a HQ 202 with a Celica box on the back (have a feeling you can see the clutch cable hanging down)
Probably wouldn't have improved the time much, but a lot more fun in the wet.

Never owned a Holden - only GM product I have ever had was a circa 1980 Vauxhall Cavalier Sportshatch back in the UK that I ceremoniously rolled and ended up inverted in a ditch after a front tyre blew out exiting a roundabout onto a motorway on ramp!

So it will just be racing Holdens I can contribute here; lets start with a current Touring Car Masters Torana being punted around Sandown by John Bowe.

Same wheels. I would have liked 2 less doors.

Wikipedia says:
VT Commodore:
5.0 L 5000i V8 (Series I only)
5.7 L Generation III V8 (Series II only)

Not true. The clear indicators on my front guards were the originals, Series 1 had orange lenses.
Series 2 with 5 Litre V8 and 5 speed. The LS1 Chev engines were fitted the month after this one was made.
