The question is addressed to 5D series users/owners/whatever.

And it reads:

"When you bought your 5D series body, whichever model it is, would you have chosen the 1D series being produced at that same time if the 1D was smaller and less weight? Understandably the 1D series was still more expensive and that's okay."

John, what I understand from your post is that you never had a 5D, you chose the 1D.

Do I have that correct?

I I initially chose a 5D and then a 5D II because of the full frame sensor. Size wasnt a factor, the sensor was. At that time the 5D and 1D cameras were seriously different products meant for different purposes. Now I shoot a 1DX and I still have the 5DII. The S variants of the 1D series were expensive and somewhat of a compromise so not really a consideration.

I bought the 5D, had no need for the higher spec features of the 1Dn, so would not have paid the premium for the frills that I did not need, even if the body were identical in size.

I would have bought a secondhand 5d4, if the 1Dx had not been cheaper...

some fairly old canon camera stuff, canon lenses, Manfrotto "thingy", and an M5, also an M6 that has had a 720nm filter bolted onto the sensor:

An argument that has little do with the OP's question has been deleted from this thread.
Feel free to continue the two sided argument via PM.

Do not bring it back to this thread.

This has been a great thread and I have very much enjoyed reading it.

Did the 1D(xxxx) series MSRP price peak at $7500?

I feel like the first 1Ds might have been $8k or more,.($8,500.00) and the 1Ds2 and 1Ds3 were $7,500.00. But that's just from recollection which could be flawed.

My first full frame was a 5-series, only because I couldn't afford the 1D-series. It was the logical purchase.

Once, I held my first 1D-series, logic went out the window. I agree with a previous poster who said it just fit the hand. The feel was perfect, weight was manageable and IQ was spectacular.

Never looked back.

I, on the other hand, never considered the 5D. From the 7D, I went to the 1D line as soon as Canon introduced a version I cared for.
I would probably have had only that 1D model still, had it not stopped working after an accodent. Got myself a 1DX Mark II due to that. Later had the 1DX ficed and now use both.
Have never longed for any 5D.

I thought the 1D was around $9K+ at some point in my awareness, but I may also be drawing on
a flawed recollection. I've certainly slept a few times since then. ;-)a

The 1Ds started with an MSRP of $7999, remained true of 1DsII. The NYC price for the 1DsIII was $7850

The 1D Mark II was $3999; the 1D Mark III was $4500
