I noticed that most of the B&W landscape images get shared over in the Still Live/B&W/Experimental Section of the forum...and while those are great threads that I enjoy...they are not just landscapes...and I am a big fan of Black & White Landscapes and after a search, can't find a dedicated thread here in this section...so why not...share your BEST...not all of them....not the snapshots...but the ones that you think are your BEST...maybe share a bit about the conversion, what made you go black and white...

Heaving: Shot last week on my second trip to Death Valley. I put the camera into B&W mode for the duration of this session so that I could see the tones differently. The tans of the mud stood out from the rust colors of the surrounding dirt and the mountains. I spent more time dodging and burning the cracks to emphasize them.

From Mt. Rainier December 2018. I kept shooting even after the glow of sunset was gone from the snow. This made for a more even tone in the snow and it stood out from the sky better this way. I couldn't bring myself to convert one with that glow to black and white, that was part of the story, but once the color was faded, I was thinking black and white all the way. The snow dusting the dark evergreen trees also provided nice contrast and broke up the darkness of the trees.

Share your best...and enjoy...maybe we can all learn a little about each other's process for shooting Black & White Landscapes.

A few years ago. Would like to take another stab at this scene, but a little late now.

Very nice. Great textures in the ferns and those white, assuming Aspen, tree trunks stand out perfectly. That kind of tonal variation in color makes for great black and whites.

Thanks, I liked the detail in the ferns. I like B&W photography, but I still feel new to it, I probably don't quite have a handle on how a scene will look when converted to B&W, this one surprised me a little when I did the conversion. Yours look great, a nice standard for the thread.

I don't do black and white very often, so I'm not even sure that this is any good, but I'll post it anyway. ;)

This is a 5 shot pano taken with my 100L macro lens.

Three cheers for the macro. I haven't had the guts to buy a macro and use it for walkabout landscape. You're changing my mind!

Black and white really needs strong subjects IMO...you have a godo one here that has nice tonal range from light to dark.

I have been over on that side! It is a great view and really makes the arch feel so small...you don't realize the scale of things from the other side...not until you see it from this vantage point.

Nice great contrast additions!

Finished this one up last night. A challenging edit, 3 images, focus stacked and manually blended. Trying to keep the shadows in the mountains from being blocked out. The dimpled top layer of the mud was almost polished from rain and water...making it look a bit metallic.

That one was from the 2015 trip. Agree, it is a great view & one you don't see often. Been to Arches NP 3-4 times and we usually end up spending 2-3 days there. Probably one of my favorite places. Hope to get back there sometime.

I have only been one time in May 2013. Spent 6 days with my dad.

One of my favorite images from the trip...

On this last trip to Death Valley, I took a camera that my father in law gave me, an old Minolta SRT201 that he bought brand new when it came out. He gifted it to me several years ago and it was in pristine condition...not surprising given his way of keeping everything that way...I just had to source batteries. I took one roll of Fuji Neopan 400 with 36 exposures and shot the entire roll. 3 decent images came from it, including this one on the sand dunes at sunrise.
