Just SE of us here in Wiltshire there is Salisbury Plain. A military training area of about 330 sq miles. There are tank tracks all over it and I have spent many a lovely walk across all sorts of parts of it as my parents used to live on the edge. With my and my parents dogs. One thing that you don't do is to pick up ANY odd looking bits and I have walked passed all sorts of ordinance  Mortar shells that haven't gone bang were one of the most common!

I remember driving past a tank track that ran close to the main road one day when I was in my R.A.F. uniform. There was a tank stopped there and some Pongos, army, working their bits off changing a broken track. They were not that impressed when I stopped and called out to inquire if they were mending a puncture :rolleyes:

Some people just don't have a sense of humour I suppose?

That sign certainly bought back some long gone memories

On the roads that cross Salisbury Plain, here is Wiltshire, there are quite a number of tank crossing signs. I haven't been down that way for years now as my parents used to live on the edge of the plain and I used to get up there for walks with our dogs. One thing you DON'T do is to pick ANYTHING up as there is a hell of a lot of unexploded ordnance laying around the could really spoil your day!

I was driving back to R.A.F. Lyneham from there one day and there was a tank stopped a few yards off the main road. A track had brokes and the REME were there repairing it. I don't think they were too impressed when some erk in R.A.F. uniform stopped and yelled across asking if they had a puncture?:evil:

No sense of humour these Pongos
