Am I the only person that's irritated by sellers that list items in the wrong category just so more people can see their listing? Lens caps in the lens category, car tires in wheels category, and so on. eBay specifically made a category for their item to make it easier to find!

Yes, it does annoy me quite a bit, but there are different filters you can apply to your searches that will usually remove most of those non-target items.

Even though that does annoy me, I've done it quite a bit myself int he past, so I am a hypocrite in this area.

I used to sell quite a bit on ebay - not camera gear, but collectibles and the like. . I would always pay extra to be able to list my items in two categories - the correct category, and another related category. . I made quite a bit of money, as my items regularly sold for higher prices that almost everybody else's similar items. . I do the same kind of thing with my stock photos, by using keywords that wouldn't normally be associated with the photos I submit.. I know for a fact this gets me more sales.

.

"Your" and "you're" are different words with completely different meanings - please use the correct one.
"They're", "their", and "there" are different words with completely different meanings - please use the correct one.
"Fare" and "fair" are different words with completely different meanings - please use the correct one. The proper expression is "moot point", NOT "mute point".

Yeah, Tom, you're right about applying the filters to land on specific item listings. The problem is, some sellers don't bother checking off their items' specifics so I've noticed I've filtered out items that would have interested me.

I wasn't talking about using filters in that specific way.

I meant doing things like price filtering. . If you're looking for lenses that typically sell for $400 to $600, but getting a lot of lens caps and "lens cleaning kits" in your search results, then setting the minimum price to $50 or $100 will filter out all of those unwanted lens accessories.

You can also put the minus sign in the search bar and then put a word after the minus sign to exclude it from results.

Example:

Canon 70-200mm -cap

That will exclude any item that has the word "cap" in the title from appearing in your search results. Just be sure to make sure that your search terms are applied to only the item titles, and not the description, as you don't want to exclude desirable listings by accident.

Oh, gotcha! Yeah, I see it in the cell phone category ALL the time! Sellers list chargers, cases, accessories. A simple price filter removes those.
