Congrats. While you're waiting for the weather to clear you can load the latest firmware into it. I assume you got the USB dock.

Yes I did get the dock.

I don’t now what camera this will be used on, but if it is a 7D2, loading the latest firmware onto the lens is not a good idea.

I can’t speak for other camera models.

I dug through all references on POTN to "dynamic OS" and they all seem to be about a year old, some people have the problem & some don't.

The big problem is none of the posts refer to a specific version of firmware.

The latest Canon version is
Ver. 2.02
Update Date 2019.11.21

which is after all the complaints.

Is it possible to attach the dock to the lens and find what the current update is, without actually doing an update?

This is my first time to own a dock. I never before owned a lens that could use a dock.

Are you asking what is the latest firmware that Sigma has released or what version is currently in your lens? The answer to both is yes.

Is it possible to see what the current version is in my lens, and to your question, can I also see what the latest version is, without making any changes in my lens?

Thank ypu

The update makes the Dynamic OS pretty much unusable and you then need to stick on Standard.....refer to the posts about this in the thread about this lens

What is Dynamic OS? I do understand the OS refers to Optical Stabilization. If the Dynamic OS is not usable, how do you stick on the standard?

Yes. A check will be made, and you get to decide if you want to update if there is one.

I just hooked up my Dock to my lens. It did take several minutes to figure out how/where to get the software from... but that part is now done.

I clicked on Firmware Update and then clicked on Detailed information which gave me this:

What is my current Firmware?? It does go below version 1.01 but it would not all fit on my screen without scrolling....

This only tells me about all the different versions, it does not appear to tell me what version is on my lens....

Thank you

The first screen that is shown after the dock S/W connects to lens shows the lens serial number and firmware version that is currently in the lens.

I doubt they will ever address it. I suspect it is manly on 7D2 bodies, but then I would have thought that a significant percentage of these lenses would be used in that combo.

You probably just need to move the small window to see the lens information:

So for my lens, detailed information (for the available update) was:

Firmware Version 2.01
The firmware will optimize the operation of Mode2 in Optical Stabilizer when used in combination with the SIGMA MOUNT CONVERTER MC-21 EF-L.

I did not update as I don't have an MC-21 mount converter. (it's for using Leica L mount camera)
