Please note: because of so much various information, rumor and disinformation please do not copypaste any texts from websites here. Give us the link to the actual text/page instead. Give us highlights, analysis and summaries, not blocks of copied texts.

This way we will get the latest info on that particular site, with possible corrections and disclaimers.

Thanks Pekka and keep safe

Another chart (external link). Cases in the US are doubling every 2 to 3 days.

As stated, this does not show the number of infected people, just the number who tested positive. Actual cases will be much higher.

Infections are at a low level but increasing rapidly, like in other jurisdictions. Measures are being implemented. We will have to see what the effect is. I'm expecting that the transmission rate will go down but not enough to wipe out the virus. Therefore we (and I am guessing many countries) will have flattened curves. Sounds good, maybe, but it means more deaths and economic consequences spread out over more time. Resolution may not come until there are enough recovered people in the populace with immunity (presumably), or an effective vaccine is developed.

I don't have any good advice on what to expect from the Coronavirus at this time.
I do know this; I may live where fuel prices are among the lowest in the U.S, and today I contracted 6 months of gasoline at 39 cents below an already lowest of the past year price. It may very well go much lower, if it does I'll get another 6 months worth. So, look for falling prices coming near you, ;-)a The virus is not helping the markets or incomes of many folks.
Tomorrow I'm starting a forestry job with one helper, we will be 6 miles from town, 3/4 mile ride in UTV, then carry in supplies the last 1/4 mile to jobsite. The isolation from all the bad news and fresh air is rather welcoming.
Best wishes to all for staying healthy!

Where was this hysteria during the Swine flu where 1,000 people died before they took action (but a different administration) and 18,000 died total from it in 2009-10 ?

Thanks for the article. ;-)a

On an uplifting note, here in Ohio right before our Governor asked all restaurants and bars to be closed, a customer left a $2,500 tip at a Coaches Bar & Grille. The restaurant bill was only $29.75

The Ohio Governor also closed polling places today which impacts the presidential primary, some judge races, and important local tax issues and levies.

Canada's PM is set to address citizens in less than an hour, and all I can think of is that new measures could be announced that would make it more difficult for me to get my new strap for my a7 III this week  (and which I've been waiting for for several weeks). The renewed foul weather isn't cooperating with the delivery either, but at least it should incite people to stay indoors today.

Encouraging news from China. They seem to have things under control there. Only one new home-grown case of COVID - the rest are from abroad and are quarantined. The economy is slowly returning to normal. The drastic measures worked.

On day three of lockdown here in Spain ... I actually doubted that immediately after writing it, unsure if it had now been three or four days. I made a short film of my observations on mundanity under lockdown. Not a lot happens in the video, that's kind of the point, I'd describe it as intentionally boring, but if you have twelve minutes to spare - and don't know what else to do, here it is ...

Well that wasn't much.

Hehe my thoughts exactly. One could wonder about the wisdom of organizing a press event and making people gather together at a time like this given the lack of new real announcements.

Might as well have pre-recorded an address and taken questions some other way.

In the meantime I'm making face masks out of old padded bras and MERV 13 AC filters with wires around to conform to the contours of my face. Will post pics if anyone is interested.
